The riders in Houston (and all south TX) understand that it is hot here... and its already 93F here by 11am with 90% humidity.  Throw in some traffic and whoa... I'm all about good gear.  I have 4 jackets (leather, mesh, etc), gloves, Icon jeans, and never ride without it.

with gas prices the way they are i love riding to work and getting 40mpg+.  (for you houstonians, I live in Pearland and drive up to the med center).

Anyways, does anyone here wear the Icon Armor Vest?

and of course with something for the arms

Any comments.  and please no comments from people in Maine about riding with full leathers....

anyone who does. BUT, they do look like a good alternative with covering. And as for the heat

Yea I wear the Icon Armor Vest everytime I go out.. Definitely keeps you cooler and provides the necessary protection on your chest and spine..

I usually just wear a t-shirt or dago-t underneath so couldnt tell you bout the elbow pads..

A friend of mine went down last summer and slid on his back for about a block and a half and he still had some protection left on the back of it so looks like they work

Why dont you look into one of those vests that you soke with water that will cool you as you ride. They dont soke your clothes either from what i hear. It holds the water and lets it evaporate and cool you as you ride.

Both Items work really well alot of stunter use them and I have a buddy here in Austin that is a pro stunter and he loves it.

I like the idea. I use HeatGear or ClimaCool under the leather Icon jacket I have now.... which will work on a nice long ride where there's little stopping involved.

This looks like a great alternative if I know I'm going to be in stop & go traffic in town, making a few stops in the dead heat.

Thanks for the idea!

The biggest determination of what kind of armor to wear is it's ability to absorb energy without causing serious injury to the wearer in a ''off''. See RIDE for a revealing secret the manufactures don't wan't you to know about

I use something similar and love it when it's hot out. When it's really hot I'll wear it under a giant t-shirt. Better than nothin.

The only difference in mine is that it's one piece, not 3.

I have the Alpinestars compression armor. It has a kidney belt as well.

Some people were looking at it at the meet-n-greet.
Took the armor out of the upper part of my leathers, so it fits good & tight.
I wear full one piece all year round. I use under armor under it up to 100 degrees. When it hits 100, or I am at the track I have a hydro vest I put on under it. I soak the hydro vest the night before & put it in the refrigerator - works great for about 4 hours.

I went down at the track at 60+mph & never felt a thing. The problem w/ regular off the shelf leathers is they have a tendency to move on impact, defeating the purpose of properly positioned armor. You can get almost a gym floor type burn on the skin.

Best piece of gear I have bought in a long time.
