Hello all! I've been riding street bikes on and off since I was 18, and now at almost 43, I just drove a 2006 Black/Silver busa home to Washington State from the Idaho dealer. I got a little freaked out last night after reading so many posts on the sheer power and spookiness of the bike and wondered if I had made a mistake. The bike was born (uncrated and put together)today, and they let me into the delivery room where it was still attached to the steel crate bottom. It wasn't quite ready yet, so I drove back to Washington (30 miles) to get my camera to capture the birth, but by the time I got back it was sitting outside ready to go. (I wonder if they ever sell those metal crate bottoms, might be a good way to store or work on it?) Anyway, I've put about 60 miles on it. As I said I was quite apprehensive. I've been riding BMW's, including a 1986 K100RS and a 2005 R1100S Boxercup Replica. Well, the Busa was real easy for me to ride right from the beginning, mainly because I took it real easy. I stopped at a Honda dealership to show it to my friend. I foolishly remarked that I actually was kind of expecting MORE power after all I'd heard. He laughed and said wait until you have it up over 100 and it starts to feel like it's sucking you into the machine. Well, because I'm cautious, and in the break-in period, and it seems stable and forgiving, and had only ridden it for about 15 miles, I guess I really didn't appreciate the montrous power this bike has, until I put some more aggressive miles on it later today. It's amazing and I love it. You truly ride down the road feeling like the king. I do think BMW has a good thing going with the turn signals on each handle, but it's what you get used to I guess. I'm still a Beemer fanatic, but now I'm also a Busa fanatic. Imagine that. A couple of questions: should I get a reputable place to put any of that 3M clear paint protector on it? Any wax recommendations? Any other comments/recommendations? I want to keep it stock and like new. (I will have to post some photos later, sorry. I even took some video as I rolled out of the dealership) By the way, I paid $10,300 out the door which I thought was pretty good until I talked to a California dealer who was selling his black 2006 for $8949! I offered $9500 to the Idaho dealer, but they didn't take it, but said they would go $10,100 for the one on the floor that had been thru test rides and a motorcyle show, but they had one in a crate for $10,300. So I was happy with that. Can't wait to ride tomorrow!
