In the pourin' rain

Any of you folks out there have input on how well the 'Busa handles inclement weather, like heavy rain and slick roads? My closest calls have been in wet conditions, and if I buy this bike, some traction would be nice. I like the 'Busa's docile nature when the throttle is not pegged, but how well does this transfer to a wet road? Ive never thrown a 'Busa around on wet roads before. Also, Ill probably put Sport Touring tires on it after purchase...

My guess is that There are plenty of bikes heavier than busas.

I'd be more worried about the shape of the tires on your busa before I take it out in rain.  Personally, I used be scared shitless to even hit a puddle.  After riding around in rain a few days - Car was in the shop no choice Pal - hehe... the fear was gone.

I have drove mine in all types of weather except snow and ice with no problems! If you are worried about rain, do like you said and go with a sport touring tire. I recomend the Avon Azaro av45, and av46. Plenty of groves to channel the water and great wear.:)

I've ridden inheavy rain with the stock BT56, BT020, and Avon 45. The Busa is stable and sure footed in the rain. Throttle control is the key. Slow down and give yourself extra distance to stop.

I have never had any problems with the Busa in the rain. I have had the original Bridgestones as well as Pirelli Diablo's. I ease up on the power a tad and Busa goes where I want her to.

Not to slam you rain weather riders, but I personally would NEVER ride my baby in the rain. For safety reasons AND I would imagine it to take forever to clean her up after being subjected to such abuse....whew!

rain tip: I used to turn the idle up just a notch in the rain and/or cold. When caught in the rain you can get cold which makes yer fingers a little less nimble on the clutch. So,if I accidently dumped the clutch downshifting it didn't make the rear slip. Also, when leaving lights and stop signs you don't have to throttle up as much, just let the clutch out.

most folks don't intensionally ride in the rain(CCbusa05) but it is possible to get caught when weather systems move in.
Just be prepared. I've been riding street for 25+ yrs.
Sooner or later,you'll get caught.

No problems in the rain, I used to live and ride in England where it rains every day (or so it seemed!)

If you haven't done any wet weather riding you owe it to yourself to get some experience. That way you'll know what to do if you have to ride through water or on slick surfaces.

Keeping it smooth is key (gentle throttle/clutch control, no agressive leaning etc.)

not to "slam you"....You make it sound as if your bike is alergic to water...are you saying you never wash your bike? I wash my bike at least once a week usually and just like the car, i spray it down with water first, wash and then rinse and of course dry...no problems with any bikes i've owned and treated them all the same...

I got caught in a monsoon a week ago , with about 40 miles left on my trip . Bad thunderstorm with a downpour so bad I had to stop a few times ......visibility was down to about 5 feet !! Anyway , the Busa was Great !! NO wheel spin or puddle floating ....I was really amazed .

I may be strange but I like riding in the rain. I have never had any issues with the bike in the rain except for giving it too much throttle. Sometimes it's even fun to do a little power burnout while accelerating in the rain. Am I wrong, isn't it fun?

Exactly, I have ridden (rode?) in the rain off and on - and I would never let the rain stop me from a day of riding. In most cases, one of two things happen - it is raining in the afternoon when I leave, but perfect at night when I return, or I get caught in a thunderstorm out of nowhere. It is quite the experience to ride in the rain.

I appreciate the replies - I think a lot of wet weather performance is related to tire condition, but much of it also has to do with the bike itself.

The Busa loves to get out rain or shine....when its wet just be a little more careful with the throttle

I wipe my bike down completely after each ride! She only needs to be washed once a month, since basically I never allow her to get dirty in the first place. I also have a Mustang GT that has never so much as seen a drop of rain or flake of snow. Ahhhh but yes, being retired I have lots of time on my hands to pamper my vehicles.

I'm with you. I have fallen in the rain (not on the Busa) and it happens so fast you don't even see the pavement slap you. I think the bike and I slid a hundred feet and kind of stopped together. Not fun and very unpredictable.

The only time I ride in the rain is when I get caught in it and have no choice.

I have ridden in some really heavy down pours and for long distances on the Busa. Just keep it smooth and give yourself plenty of time and space to brake.
