The answer is a graduated licensing system, like the UK, and nation wide helmet laws.

You'll get all points of view on the helmet laws; we always do

I do agree with more strict licensing laws though...

agree, thats a good start. Also would like to see more motorcycle friendly design in new road construction. Motorcycle only lanes like commuter lanes in some places.

You can't license stupidity...

What I mean is car drivers killing motorcycle riders due to inattentiveness will not be weeded out by a more stringent licensing program. The same can be said for motorcyclists killing themselves due to excessive speed and bad judgment calls.

A more comprehensive driver's training program, much like Germany's, would help especially if it was backed with insurance discounts. Also, I think if by the age of 65 you've had more than say...3 at fault accidents you should have your license revoked. We also need people to know if they kill someone with their vehicle because they're text'ing, talking, or otherwise not paying attention...they will face jail time.

More laws are not necessarily the answer but if you can't influence people's upbringing then you can only punish their mistakes.

helmets are easy...if you're costing me money because by not wearing a helmet then I'm for helmet laws. Just my .02....

very true but I am a firm believer that an experienced bike rider can avoid 99.99% of the car issues... any rider that has been out here for 20+ years can tell you when a car is going to change lanes before the car driver does... Like racing, you have to be thinking ahead of where you are now..

it takes certain situational awareness to survive a lot of years.

MP3 players and like things should be left in your tank bag too...

+1 on being more strict licensing.

I always wear a helmet even if i'm just running to the corner store. You might not be flying down the road but that doesn't mean someone else isn't coming at you doing 90 playing with their radio.

A Graduated system would be good for younger drivers. The idiots that are already grown need to be punished appropriately.

How much does a car driver get punished if they hit a pedestrian? How about a bicyclist? Motorcycles are at the same, if not a higher risk level, so why not higher penalties?

There's also an increase of deaths in Automobiles ! Think

maybe it's because more people are riding bikes now

. And remember, you can regulate, but you can't stop dumb

or accidents. And right or wrong, when a bike collides with a Car or Truck, the Bike ALWAYS loses

Aman Brother. I say 3 at fault accidents by any age and you should
have your license revoked for a period of time and have to take driving course, and about the helmets could not have said it better myself

Driving is a privilege, not a right.

But I also agree that a large majority of accidents, car or motorcycle, can be avoided by at least one driver being attentive. Like when I'm driving I don't look to see what a car is doing, I look to see what the driver is doing. Do I have eye contact? Is he checking lanes around him? Also, I try to avoid driving next to anybody.

Something that my instructor pointed out to me that I now fully believe in. People like to clump up on the road. Stay away from those large 'flocks' of vehicles and you'll avoid a massive amount of the dangers that face drivers.

I disagree that 99% of the car issues can be resolved. I have been personally rearended 2x by cars. Once was a car that followed me behind for a 1/4 mile to a stop sign and he was on the phone and "forgot" that I was in front of him waiting to make my turn to go through the stop sign. He proceeded to go when it was my turn to go and hit me. I personally thought that he hit me on purpose since he followed me a 1/4 mile to that stop sign. There was no way for me to awoid it. The second time when I was stopped in traffic and was rearended by a woman that was on her phone. Again no way to avoid the accident. I had traffic on the right lane moving and there was oncoming traffic on the other side coming. Both times, I did not do anything and I could not avoid accident. So your percentage theory just went down the tubes. The fact is as we all know people that drive cars cause the most accidents when it pertains to the interacting with motorcycles. Either they hit you from behind or they turn left on you when you have the right a way.
