installing a valentine 1 on the busa

Ok. I'm ordering a valentine 1. How do you install it on the busa. What power supply do you use? Where do you mount it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..........

Sorry Vegas I've been busy - didn't see your question until now but I'm surprised no one else answered. There are several different ways to go about mounting your new V1. Some like Jeff W. have elected to mount theirs under the fairing and use the remote adaptor. This is probably ideal for a bike-only V1 setup but since I also use my V1 in two or three cars I elected to mount mine to the bottom of the windscreen using the factory supplied V1 windshield mount with suction cups. I also rest the V1 on the top of the Busa's dash above the clock for extra stability. This allows me to easily remove the V1 and go to the cars with it too. I routed the power cord around the right side of the dash down to just behind the forks, attached to some existing wires with a tie strap and on back to the battery underneith the tank and out of site. I connected both the V1 power supply cable and my remote audio adaptor power supply directly to the battery but I'm sure there are a various other places you could tap into power lines. Some would allow power to the V1 only when the bike is powered up. This is only one way to go about it and it worked out best for me but there are other setups that may be better for your situation.

Can,t believe you guys would throw good money away!
In this area they proceed to thank you for stopping, then right you a ticket anyway . then they go on say they really won't chase the superbikes very far . safety thing he says . Well its true,I see gumballs a flashin' I'm a bashin' never see 'em again .! Try it ,it works!

They`ll chase you in NC...and bump you if they get a chance...saw it done first hand to my buddy....I luckly turned the other way...yes this was back in my younger dumber years...thank god I made it ..if bikes were as fast as they are now all my friends and me would be dead.....

The cops live to chase people here in OK. They don't care how unsafe it becomes or how petty the offense. They just bought new Z-28's so they could raise their pursuit speeds to the 150's. Not enough to catch a Busa though as experienced by one of our Tulsa Busa owners not long ago.

Vegas let me know when you get it, I will send you some installation pictures.

Get both remotes audio and visual.

8,800 miles and no police interviews or driving awards :)

Hey KawAbuser, send me those pics. Ill have the valentine one tomorrow. email me at davea@lvcm.com. I really appreciate it. BTW, is this installation something I can do myself? Anyway, thanks again for the help.

Vegas go to either Radio Shack or Home Depot and pick up a set of RJ11 connectors and the crimping pliers for them and a 20' of black phone line cord(not the curly stuff).

Get some self adhesive cable clips (small)

The photos I just took today they will be in your maibox tonight.

If you know which finger is called your thumb you should be able to do it, but you need the wire and the phone cord ends/crimper. The ends are the same as attaches to the phone from the wall, not the small ones from the hand set.

My V1 is inside the right fairing above the ram air box. Remote visual unit sits on top of the instrument panel. Remote audio control unit is in the tail section. Power adapter is connected to the taillight wire so ignition key turns it on. I keep the volume off on the unit itself and route a cable from the remote audio unit to exit between front seat and tank and plug into it the wire from a Radio Shack mono headphone stuck inside the padding of my helmet. It's a superb and discreet setup.

VegasDude and JohnnyB, I have no trouble hearing the detector through the earphone with or without earplugs. I use the waxy type plugs that you knead with your fingers and then squish into the ear canal, when I use plugs, which is seldom. My helmet is an Arai Signet, which is a little quieter than my Shoei X9, but had could hear with that helmet too. The R1 remote audio unit has volume control and I keep it turned all the way up. As for 190 mph, I don't know about that. Never have gotten a radar signal at that speed.

JohnnyB, the answer is with the AutoComm unit. These products are used in Nascar and endurance racing. They have a sensor to detect ambient noise.

Vegas and Scott the photos have been sent .

The stem mount in the picture is a SAENG part.

Zero Gravity screen reduces wind noise as well as providing a clear view of the displays.

Just a note for you guys looking for switched 12 volts for detectors and other gadgets. The Busa has an unused connector in the front fairing to the right of the instrument panel that has switched 12v available. This connector may be used in countries that require the front running light. My 97 Gsxr had the same connector.

Just finished an installation of a Bel 815 Sti radar detector in my Busa. The 815 Sti has a remote antenna (weather resistant) which I mounted inside the front fairing. The small laser detector gets mounted above the gauges and the control panel to the right of the ignition switch. To solve the problem of not being able to hear the detector I use a piezo alarm, the type that they use on trucks for the back up warning alarm (weather resistant). I designed my own drive circuit that takes the alarm signal from the detector and provides the necessary current for the noise maker.

I really appreciate a permanently mounted radar detector for the bike. You can't leave home without it.....it comes on as soon as you turn the ignition switch. Also there are no head phone wires tethering you to the bike. You are free to get on/off the bike at gas stops without rewiring yourself.

I have my V-1 mounted using a mount I purchased from SAENG/TA. I called them and they had an idea for the mount using the hole in the steering head where it attaches with the frame, Although his version did not quite work like we thought it would. I was able to fix it so it did the job perfectly. The extra hardware I had to purchase was about $10.00 and I now have a mount that holds the V-1 up right above my key and is aimed perfectly yet I can remove it and and leave no trace tat it was ever there. No drilling or attaching of any thing to the bike pemanately was required.

Hey KawAbuser, i went with your same set up except for the autocomm and mountings on the handle bars. I happened to have the hayabusa ugly beige tank bag and after trying every way i could, i determined to put the detector in the bag like you suggested use the remote visual on top of gauges and remote audio in the trunk. I made a speaker which fits perfect in the arai helmet and im in business. The tank bag may be ugly but it is so functional that in itself has its on beauty. Thanks to everyone for their input as i used some of the advise from everyone. Thanks KawAbuser for the pics and email outlining what you had done, it made it easy.............
