I am looking into a larger rear sprocket when I replace my rubber this spring. Is a new chain mandatory? How much bigger can you go with the stock chain? Will I feel a difference not going real big?

You didn't say what year your bike is...assuming it's a Gen1 '99-'07...stock gearing is 17/40. A 43 rear is the largest that you can go with a stock length chain.

Try it you'll like it :beerchug:

How many miles on your bike ???

a larger sprocket is a great deal . but it is going to take away from your wheelbase..soooo be carefull if and when you grab a hand full of throttle

I think you will notice more effect from the lower gear ratio than the wheelbase change.. I put a 43 on my bike and it will power the front off the ground in second gear now..

This thread reminds me: I'm currently running an 18/42. I wanted the shortened wheelbase with close to stock gearing. Does anybody know if the stock chain will allow an 18/43? I guess I might be the one to find out :).

18/43 is stock for a Gen2...chain is 114 links...Gen1 is 112 links

Did you mean 17/43?

No, 18/43. I know it's wierd. I originally ran 17/42 and loved the shorter wheelbase, but when I got a 1397 engine, it was too wheelie happy so I went 18/42. I thought maybe 18/43 might work. BABUSA's post tells me it might not work. Only one way to find out...:please:

UPS guy just showed up and my sprockets arrived:cheerleader:

17/45 should make the B-King a little more interesting now:laugh:
