IPOD Question

I want to use my IPOD with my truck stero system. There are ways to hardwire it in, but today, I discovered a kit that will power the IPOD and includes a mount. It sends the IPOD signal to the radio via an FM transmitter. My question is what kind of quality will I use by using this FM transmitter?

Anyone know?

it's actually pretty good. the problem I've had is in populated areas - it's hard to find an open frequency on the radio dial - thus it's not much use in greater Los Angeles...

It should sound fine with the FM trans. My buddy uses his XM radio through a FM trans. and it sounds really good. Unless your trying to win a competition you will be happy.

Lookie what I found just for you brother

the hook up

This little gizmo plugs into your cd changer control in your factor head unit. It will sound just like Cd`s would with out the static of an Fm mod unit. I should know, I have tried both.

There is another company that I would use first but thay dont have anything for You truck out yet. You might want to find a dealer and see if there is anything out yet for it and just havent updated there web sit.

Thanks Josh, I knew some of this stuff was available, but i am interested in trying the simple route before paying people to install these kits.

greg, belive it or not, there easy as hell to install. all you have to do is pull out the radio and the plug for it is already there!!! it plugs into your cd changer port on the stock radio, takes about twenty min. to install. The hard part is just hidding the hook up for the ipod to the converter.

If I was anywhere near you I would install it for ya

I have been using the Griffin Itrip for a few years, but just recently went with the Alpine and the Alpine Ipod connector, and I love it, it charges your ipod, sounds great and shows tag info on the head unit, definitley the way to go. The shuffle is the way to go on the Busa though.

I have the Belkin FM transmitter for my iPod... though its a nice lil contraption, the quality is not all that great!! I still feel its better you interface the pod to your car system via a cable, rather than the FM transmitter!!

I cant use the FM... i gotta use the tape player (or hardwire it) because I can't get a good frequency

OK Josh, gonna try it your way. I wasn't all that thrilled with the FM transmitter solution. I may hit you up for advice.

I use the iTrip
depending if the waves are crouded the quality will vary

set the volume on the ipod halfway to avoid distorsion

I think it's worth it specially if you drive where civilisation is scarce
