Last night I got a call from KHP (Kansas Highway Patrol ) @ 12:15 am informing me that we had a multicar fatality accident on WB K-10 highway near Edgerton Road & that they needed our assistance with closing the highway down. I thought being the norm here in Kansas that it was a drunk driver or a driver going to fast and loosing control due to the heavy rain. So I anticipated that it would be bad. I finally got out there at 1:30 am & shut the highway down, I pulled up on the scene where the Paramedics, Police & Life Flight were & found that it was a drunk driver that crossed over to the WB side & that there were 3 fatalities & 2 of them were children Age 2 & 7. I have seen " MANY " fatalities wrecks on our highways but this one hit alot harder than any other wreck I have been apart of because Children were involved. I have a heavy heart for the only survivng parent of that accident , Not only did he loose his 2 children but He lost his wife @ 6:30 this morning of injuries sustained in the accident. The driver that crossed over was pronounced dead @ the scene. Please everyone , If you are going to drink do it in a safe place. MY Prayers are sent to All Involved , GOD SPEED ! :please:
If you have children make sure you tell them You Love them every chance you get. Nothing in Life is a guarantee !! :please:

This is exactly why I am not a paramedic, fireman, police officer, etc. I couldnt take the things involving kids. It breaks my heart.

wow, that is a terrible way to start out day... I have never been a first responder but have seen my share of bad crashes first hand.. I have been first on scene at 2 multi fatality crashes (witnessed) and it leaves a very distinct impression on you forever.. I can only imagine if this happens every time.. I swear I can still smell the crash scenes..

Hats off to you guys.. very hard job.. sure wish there was a way to impress upon people about drunk driving..

Seemed every major holiday as a truck driver I would pass a mini van with a full family crashed along the highways too... if you are not used to driving long distance, take a break...

The driver of the car that crossed over had children & a wife also. There were many affected by this accident !

Terribly sad. One lapse in judgement has destroyed a lot of lives. Sadly though, it happens every day.

I pray for the man who survived, and I pray for the family of the man who didnt.
