Is there a Best Gear Ratio

I put a 42 on last week and did see a difference, not a huge difference (except speedo way off) fix with yellow box. when riding still felt that it needed a little more gear. So the question is should I think about a 43 or 44 rear and leave the front at 17 because I know it is better for a chain not to turn small diameters or leave the 42 and drop one in the front. Cheaper to drop one in the front but I am not looking for cheaper looking for the best without buying 20 different combos and testing so looking for major input on what others have done. I weight 215 if that helps. I don't race the bike at a strip so not looking for pure drag racing gearing just want good low end grunt for all around riding (not highway touring) but back road blasting and I don't want to be at 10,000 rpm at 65 mph either, I had someone post on another board to put a 46 or 48 on the rear... that is not what I was looking for as an answer :*(

I emailed allot guys on this site, and the number that came back time and time again was 16 Front / 42 Rear. Well I ordered my 16T today from Knee Draggers.com so will be putting on this week. Also having some other work done so hopefully will have it back by Sunday for a ride. If not than sometime next week. I will post what I honestly think about the 16/42 for anyone else that is thinking about it. I have
16/44 on my ZZR1200 and love that combo so hopefully will feel the same about this one.
