Okay so I was cleaning my rims and yes I'm a new bike owner. Anyways I was cleaning my rims so I can put my rim tape on. My rim tape is huge! ( It actually looks like it changes the color of the rims) I noticed there was this thing on it.. It was in the way, So I removed it! I THINK this hard plastic/lead thing balances the wheel (found out a few weeks after) Crap..... Anyone know if this will make a huge difference on my rideability? Sorry this isn't a tire thread but it's on the rim so I thought this was basiclly the same idea lol

Well in a word...yes.

Tire weights are there to make sure that the natural flow of the tire goes with the natural flow of the rim. Not all tires are created perfectly and that is why we have wheel weights.

Tires that need them will wear funny, lopsided, or just develope a kind of bump in the drive. My advice ( and this is a guy who worked in a tire shop for three years and works as an equipment operator in the military) I would go and have your tire rebalanced and the weight put back on. Sometimes if you get a guy good enough he can manipulate how the weight goes on so it wouldnt effect your tape.

Oh and welcome to the Org.

Naw...just put a roll of quarters in one of your pockets...helps balance things out a bit. Just dont go over 55!

j/k.....have a shop rebalance.
