Is valveclearance check necessary?

Ive got 22,000 miles on my 00 Busa and never had the valve clearance checked. The manual recommends they be checked @ 15000 miles. The bike runs fine. I hate the idea of someone tearing into my engine unecessarily and messing something up. It seems like fairly complicated job to trust the dealer mechanic. Should I have the valves checked? What is the risk in not checking?

A lot of people have them checked and they don't need any adjustment. I won't do mine until the bike tells me to.

The bucket and shim valve setup on the Busa is very stable, but I had mine checked at 15,000 miles. Everything was in spec. I'll have it done again at 30,000. Its up to you if you want to know what's going on under the skin. To me, its worth it to know that everything is healthy. If you don't want the dealer to do it, do it yourself. It's not rocket science, but it does take a few hours and requires a bit of patients.

A valve that's too tight is the problem. You won't hear it and then BAM! Too loose isn't nearly as bad. I'll have em checked just to be safe (and) to stay in warranty.
