Ride south and avoid the rain. It worked.....................................for 300 miles. Nothing but warmth and blue skies. The northbound return was wet for the last 82. Wet but, worth it. Six of us spanked the Mini Dragon, lunched at Happy Burger in Mariposa, where we said good bye to Elliot and his Big Bad Beemer. He wasn't wanting to risk getting her wet and departed for home early.
The remaining five continued south to Oakhurst and Raymond where we ended the south bound leg and turned north to Catheys Valley. In Hornitos we encountered a very friendly Fun Monitor that advised us of his intended route. He suggested we could have as much fun as our throttle hands desired should we choose to set a course in the opposite direction. Good advice and it was taken. Warily at first, but he was true to his word and we let it rip back towards a second serving of the Mini Dragon.
The weather was starting to thicken and by the time a fuel stop was required it had begun to sprinkle. The fossil fuel dispensary was populated by a Herd of Hardleys seeking shelter from the few scant drops and biatchin' about wet Hardleys...............POSERS!!! It took awhile to get them to open a path to the pumps so the real riders could replenish their tanks while they blotted the rain drops from theirs..........POSERS!!!!
Tanks topped and with plans being laid for seeking the next set of twisties it was discovered Masago had shed what was left of her front rubber on the Dragon. It didn't have one more ride left in it after all. Oops, good thread in the middle nothing left on the sides. Unfortunate, as now I had to tip toe thru the last twisty piece of rainy asphalt left.
Steve's Superhawk 996 rolled over on 100,000 miles before we went our separate ways under the liquid skies. It was the first time Masago had no desire to haul azz. I wasn't going to coax anymore than she wanted to give considering her bald state up front. A long wet ride home with a successful arrival.
