hi to all,
after buying my second busa i found it needed the cam chain recall doing. so i booked it in. 4 weeks wait for a dealer to be able to fit me in. in which time i didnt ride on advice from dealer.
bike is 2000 ry model and only done 3100 miles as it was only used for a year or so.
i took bike in a van yesterday to have cam chain adjuster done, dealer said it would be a 3-4 hour wait so i went shopping with the wife.
about dinner time the dealer rang and said "we have a problem" the crank is twisted and and we cant get the primary drive gear off. so it needs a new crankshaft £700+vat and everything else associated with a complete engine rebuild.
the bike is no longer covered by warranty.
however, the suzuki bigwig was at the dealers as luck would have it, he see the problem and admitted that there had been a few cases of this in the past and as its such a low mileage bike suzuki would cover the work and all costs. i cant tell you the relief i felt.
hats off to suzuki but come on, how long you been building bikes? this really shouldnt be happening.
now the reason for me telling everyone this is, this can be caused quite easily by bump starting the bike and it back firing, aparently it loads primary gear momentarily therefore twisting the splines on the crank.
i hope this doesnt happen to anyone else but i now have a 7 week wait for parts etc, etc. luckily i live in the UK so the weather is poop and i wouldnt want to ride anyway.
