just checked steering damper, what does this mean?????????

i just checked the steering damper. i could move it about quarter to half inch from north to south. make sense. should this play be their? who had the quick fix for this? some one help

Seems to be normal. Do a search there was another thread on it.

It has to have some vertical play in it. Just look at the relative motion of the mounting point on the stearing head with respect to the mounting point on the frame. If it didn't have the degrees of freedom it has, it would bind up the stearing at extreme angles.
