so i was welding in my shop when my buddy comes up behind me and flips my hood up, after flailing around for about ten minutes trying to hit him with whatever i could grab i just sat down and waited for my vision to come back.

Since I was a welder in the Navy, let me tell you how I would deal with this situation. Just pay a visit to the guys work area when he is either welding, or away from his area. Then take a cutting torch and heat up his wrenches, chipping hammer , jig clamps, you know, anything he might grab ahold of. Problem solved!
