When I Kick the Kickstand up to start my bike it WON'T START. I have to Push the kickstand up with the Heal of My Boot in order to get it to Start. How do I fix the Problem and What are the Chances of the Kickstand Coming Down and Shutting my Bike off in Mid Flight ? Like at 100MPH +

That is a great question...

I never thought about the spring breaking, accidentally nudging the stand down a little while in flight, etc... That could be disastrous unless there is some override built in that keeps the kill switch from working while in gear...

It sounds like a bad connection when you (kick) it into place, possibly loosening the switch mechanism or wires. Haven't looked that closely at mine but if your's is shorting out after taking a hit you should take a look. Its plausable that a hard bump in the road could also cause the connection to loosen as well.

It's about the same as when ol' Spudley's clicking along at speed and accidentally compresses the left pocket on my jacket which "usually" houses the remote for my alarm.........without the noisemakers of course...the engine dies, the bike decellerates, and you nurse it over to the side of the road......."basically".....in that case...you'd have to rewire the switch, replace it or jump it. I now carry the remote in the top of my Bagster....in the map pocket.

At 100mph, you're better off finding neutral, and focusing on your braking. "Then" play around with the wiring....

Yep, look at the switch. It could be as little as it has vibrated loose and not making a good contact when you put the stand up.

Guess I was thinking of the worst situations you could be in and have that happening... I couldn't imagine being in the #1 lane of the 405, with nothing on the left but a K-Rail, and people doing 80 MPH all around you.. It is still practically bumper to bumper here even at high speeds !!!

The first thing to do is clean and lube the pivot bolt area and side stand.

A build up of grime comes down on it from under your front sprocket cover.

I am always amazed at how quick it build ups.

I safety wired my side stand kill switch in the fully compressed position.

Goofy switch did the the same thing to me once whilst I was riding. Turned out that a cleaning I did degreased the stand pivot area and it was not fully swinging and engaging the plunger thingy.

+1...I'd put money on that.

At my last service, the kickstand was getting less 'spring-ey'; after the service, it was just like new.

I hope you have a rear-stand to assist in your inspection.

Good luck!

sounds like your springs may be stretched out, replace them and see if that fixes it,and as for it coming down while rideing,i think thats why there are 2 springs...just incase...

need to lube the kickstand pivot area like said above... mine has this issue once in a while... little dab of grease and its good to go. Helps to keep the kickstand switch plunger clean too.

The BUSA Bill, Thanks for asking. I will try All your suggestions when I get some time.

Only one question has'nt been Addressed Clearly. If the Kickstand somehow Drops down enough to shut the Engine Off and I am IN GEAR at any Speed , will the Rear Tire Lock Up or just Roll with the Bike ?

dont think it will lock up but it will slow down enough that it will be dragging behind and skidding. It will probably feel like its locked up though. I need to lube my kickstand myself. I can tell when it needs to be done cause when i put it up, sometimes it doesnt go all the way up and i cant start the bike. Most of the time i just give it a little tap with the heel of my boot to make sure its all the way up.

I don't know about you but a Rear Tire Skidding and Dragging can be a DANGEROUS thing at any Speed let alon 100+

Ever since I modded my stand after I lowered mine, I have to push it up all the way with my foot. If I just kick it, it won't go up all the way. I'm not exactly sure why, but this may be the same thing goin on with your's. It may not have any "fault" with it, it may just simply need to be pushed up all the way. And by the way, yes, it does shut off if it's in gear and the stand is down. I accidentally left my stand down one day and put the bike in gear and it shut off.

The tire will lock up eventually when your rate of travel is over come by the engine compression. To over come that scenario, simply pull in the clutch and coast to a safe stop.

Have to look into mine now, something i never thought about and no problem yet with 2 Busas/15,000 miles on each but now that i know it can happen it'll be on my mind when doing one of my Sat. morning 180+ runs!
