knocking noise

Hi all new to site,I have a 2008 and found it an awesome bike, have owned for 2 years with no problems, but it has developed a slight knock when lite acceleration then again when you touch rear brake,l have torqued all the bolts I can get at( with fairings on)checked chain tension all ok any idea's
would be appreciated

I would check the rubber dampers in the rear hub for play. You'll have to remove the rear wheel for that and while you have it off, check the bearings also. Have you ever replaced your chain? Check it for tight spots and your sprockets for wear. You'll have to remove your left side fairing to get to the front sprocket.

I checked all nuts where tight, axles exhaust engine mounts ,just about everything I could do with fairings on,hard to tell where noise is coming from but sounds like rear to middle,I'm going to take rear wheel off and check rubbers in the hub then have a look at the chain for stretch and sprocket for wear,I will report my findings thanks for all the advice

I did notice when you move the bike backwards and forwards you get a slight knock from front sprocket area ,not shore if it is the chain taking up the slack from forward ,backwards motion?

It isn't that much trouble to take that sprox cover off and take a look. Something might be loose or have come free and is making contact with the sprocket intermittently. Mine doesn't make a "knock" per se when doing what you described but a tension take up slight pop sound. I wouldn't describe it as a knock.

Update on progress so far,I've had th rear wheel off checked every link on the chain all moving freely, rear sprocket teeth all straight,,the sprocket hub lifted out of the cush rubbers without any resistance?,saying that the rubbers look in good condition ,checked bearings all moving freely,,should it be tight to get the sprocket back into cush drive because my sloted straight in,I do not get any backwards forwards movement in the hub assembly though.I will be looking at front sprocket tomorrow to check for wear and make sure its torqued.Any thoughts on cush rubbers?

Had front sprocket cover off,bet of a mess in there ,well due a clean anyway front sprocket looks good to so took bike back out and this slight knock happens over bumps and I've pin it down to the middle (I think),,checked shock bolts were tight all ok ,any other ideas as this is starting to bug me,or forget about it,keep ride in until it gets alot worse??

Maybe take it for a spin with the plastics off and see if you can nail it down a little easier? Clean out your seat compartment too. And just to make sure, sometimes the bushings (retainers) in the front rotors wear a bit and make noise at very low speeds.

Problem found, replaced chain and sprockets but knock still there so removed o/s fairing and was checking every thing that I could get at and found bottom engine mount loose, torqued and tested all sweet, thanks for all your help

Thanks ,next time you have faring off check them engine mounting bolts,2 top 55nm ,2 bottom nuts 75nm it might save you a load of time and money

Glad you found it. I'm guessing the engine was removed at sometime. Were any others loose?

No nothing else loose, just the bottom mounting nut, funny thing was when you looked at it ,it was not backed out looked tight.Haynes manual tells you to check these bolts as regular maintenance, and no I don't think anything had been done to the bike,I have covered over 6000 Miles and it just started to happen
