It's on, I'm done and I'm whipped.

I wrapped it and went crazy with the insulation from thermo-tec. Haven't given it the trial run, it's stuck on the stand in the garage and I'm alone (I always use help, just to be safe).

The only thing is...after the Y the pipe is resting on the rear bottom fairing piece (the triangle piece). I got insulation there (couple layers), so I hope it's enough. Anyone else have it touching there with advice?

The sound is freaking awesome. No small airbox mod, marble mod, or new map yet. That's for another day.

and what the heck do  I do with the old one

I went through many Painstaking hours with this system and i Guarentee you this all the wrap in the world is not the answer .....The only way it works properly is airspace, airspace between the panels and pipes i have seen many bikes with this system and i have seen only 2 things Either melted plastics ,,or dented pipes from swingarm hitting ,,i have this system also and spent about 20 hrs total playin to get it right,,made up many spacers of different sizes and plenty of heat tape on panels but you still need the small space between the two or Damage will occur...hope this helps in time ..

(usn04limited @ Oct. 22 2006,18:48) By "Y" pipe do you mean that 2-to-1 collectors that go into the "X" pipe?

Don
Doh...yes

X-pipe
Ok, mine was like that at first too. I took the springs off, loosened the header bolts and wiggled the "X" pipe back and forth while pushing up towards the engine. It settled in and moved up just a bit. My exhaust does not make contact with my plastic anywhere. I spent a lot of time making sure that it was as far away as possible from the plastic. I used ThermoTec heat barrier everywhere the exhaust got close. I did not wrap the pipes either. The first 500 miles, I checked everything about every 25 or 30 miles. I have about 2000 miles since the install, no problems, no worries.

Yes it took me 2 days to do mine as well.

I looked at again, I've got a very small air space (I shoved it again). I'll ride it tomorrow and give it a try.

I have to admit I am very dissapointed that there are no pics on this thread.

It does look AWESOME but she's dirty and it got dark before I got done. Pics tomorrow...unless half the plastic is melted off.

Mine was probably the easiest install that I have seen on here. No it wouldn't have taken 2 days, but I took 2 days. I adjusted, re-adjusted and re-adjusted again just to make me happy. I have between 2000 and 2500 miles with the system on, no melting, no probs. Part of that was in 100 degree+ heat. The heat shield I have is good up to 2000 degrees radiant and 300 degrees contact. Now if I could just get the tune right to take advantage of the mods I have.

I did my test ride into work today and nothing melted but the plastics got real hot in 2 areas. It was only about a 15 minute ride, would they get hot enough to melt...I don't know.

1-in the back after the x pipe.
2-on the bottom on both sides of the opening.

Ah sheet, geuss I'll mess with it some more.

Hmmm, assuming I buy one of these one day, if I bought it from a dealer I wonder if I could sucker them into a flat-rate install cost??

This would be their service manager after they finally got it on....

Crap...I can't get the thing to budge. It's up against the rear bottom triangle piece and it's definately getting too hot.

WTF HMF...all they had to do was put a little more bend in the pipe upward.

For $1000 I expect a little less trouble. Now wtf do I do?
Take it all apart again
