Let's talk front brakes

Okay guys, so I am still sifting through the bajillion threads on this here, and reading what I can to try to educate myself.

On my bike when I apply the front brakes the stopping power is less than what I would expect, and they make a distinct feedback and sound which I can best liken to a winding down motor (this is not an ideal comparison, but I assume it is the part of the pad that emits the "hey replace me" warning that cars do when they squeal) The pads are still able to be seen, but maybe 1/10 of an inch...

To review, what is the general recommendation for front brake pads? Are brake lines really worth it? Where would you get them?

I don't need to do endos, but I want the ability to stop fast and effectively if I have to. Brakelines I would almost prefer to not mess with....but depending on the cost and the level of improvement, I would do it.

Thanks in advance

Sorry but I do not know if you are a Gen 1 or 2 guy. If Gen 1 the lines are worth the money. The improvement over stock is worth every cent. I cannot comment on Gen2 as I have not ridden one.

As for pads a lot on here recommend EBC HH pads. Where to get them?? Check with the board sponsors and they will hook you up.

Yes, major brake improvements ARE in order......start with pads (HH anything), get used to that. Then, when you're ready swap the lines and flush the brake fluid for synthetic.....get rid of that 1/10" stuff.....NOW !!! :super:

It was a night and day improvement on my bike when I changed the lines and pads. All my stuff was new at the time but having used braided lines before, I could feel the stock rubber ones blowing up like balloons when I squeezed them harder.
As everyone else has stated, if your on a Gen 1, change the lines and HH pads. You won't regret it.

I just did a switch from EBC HH pads with OEM rotors with braided lines to
Galfer wave rotors with galfer pads and braided lines.
all I can say is
on another note look into pazzo shorty levers

For YOUR '99 Busa...Gen1 is '99-'07...I recommend EBC HH pads and Galfer SS lines

Sweet

Sorry about not stating it was for a gen 1 in my post, I had it in my sig so thought that would be sufficient.

Thanks guys :beerchug:

We love the 99 year colors, post a pic.:poke::rulez:

And do what BaBusa told you EBC HH pads with the Galfers lines.:cheerleader:

Good thread aj ---

I'll be looking into this as well soon enough. :beerchug:

Any Good DIY's? Is the procedure similar to car brakes/lines?

Dave

Do the S.S. Lines and upgrade the pads. On either Gen I and Gen II....I just did the lines on my Gen II with syn. fluid and it feels better. Becareful if you do this mod. the brakes do get touchier. The gen I's brakes suck worse. The 6 piston caliper is a joke on the suzuki's. I had them on my 02 1k and swapped them for a set of rc51 4 piston nissin caliper and 07 gsxr 1000 radial master cylinder with the same S.S. Lines. I had both ebc HH and a set of carbon larianes on the stock set up, better feel but still faded and wouldn't stop for crap! Now its better on the 02 1k.

It would be best to take the calipers off and flip out the pads for a visual check. Off the cuff, I don't remember how much wear is acceptible but it is in the manual.
