Light Weight, Strong Side Stand

Mythos

Registered
Just asking for recommendations and any thoughts on the topic. I am looking for an aftermarket billet sidestand that is strong enough to hold the bike but lighter than the stock side stand.

I really never heard of anyone actually weighing different kickstands.
Do u have any idea how much the stock one weighs ?

The stock ZX-14 sidestand was twice as heavy as the billet stand I replaced it with.

Replacing small parts with aftermarkets is an expensive way to loose weight but generally billet aftermarket stuff is about half what OEM stuff weighs ----usually. The Vortex rearsets I put on the 14 actually weigh a it more than OEM pegs. Pazzoo shorties were same weight as OEM levers.

The way I look at it, you will add weight by putting stuff like sliders and chain adjusters on so why not loose a few pounds with the stuff you replace like sidestand and gas cap?

So how about the busa?? Anyone have an aftermarket stand they like or dislike?? Otherwise I just have to take a shot in the dark and go with a Spencer Cycle or McCoy or Orient express like I did on my 14---They are all identical stands but the sellers put their proprietary name on them.

You are correct, Busashot. That was the stand that seemed to have received the most frequent recommendation for the ZX-14. The Spencer Cycle kickstand is identical to the McCoy kickstand, Orient express and several other companies'. McCoy is about the same price as Spencer. That is where I got the ZX-14 stand I have pictured above.

The T-Rex I received last week was about $85 delivered. Got it on Ebay. It is black anodized which is nice because that surface is much more durable and maintenance free than parts that need to be painted black.

I like it but would prefer if it was a few ounces lighter. Maybe busa stands are a bit heavier because they all seem to have that crook at the top. I am sure I can dremmel some metal out of the back near the top and bring the weight down without seriously compromising the strength.

Also, would prefer that the foot was broader like the spencer Cycle stand. Those things will never poke into a soft surface. I will probably JB weld an oval aluminum plate to the bottom of the T-Rex foot so it covers a bit more surface area.

I haven't yet removed the OEM stand from my bike but will post the weight when I do.

The stock Gen I kickstand is 1lb. 8oz. The Spencer one was lighter but I am not sure that what I have in my journal is correct. I have 1lb. 2oz.

I would have to take it off and re-weigh it to be sure

Put The T-rex on tonight. Pleasantly surprised --the aftemarket is half te weight of the OEM after all. That's what to expect from aluminum parts v steel.

Also weighed the springs. I went with the small one only on the T-rex cuz that saved me a half ounce of unnecessary weight.
