Long Distance Riding?

Yes, the fellas ride down to Myrtle Beach, SC every year. Rode down last year ona 95 Kaw ZX1100(now sold). Sounds like there should be no problems with the Busa. Kool! We did stop about every 100-120miles for a stretch and stuff so ridin da Busa sounds like long distance riding won't be a problem at all. Thx for all the 411's and I see my "back" will be okay too. What about my leg riding position? I spend some time down at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ and was so impressed with the Busa's 1/4mile times. This bike is so smooth. It may not start out the first few seconds ahead but more than likely finishes in first. That firmed up my final decision to buy the Busa!

Are you going to beach rally at Mrytle Beach? I`m four hours away...Genmar bar risers would help your back out on that long of a trip.

My average ride is 300 miles. I think it is very comfortable. I stop every 100 miles or so and get gas and relax for 10 minutes just to enjoy the sites. The bike is comfortable. I use a tank bag and carry misc items to make the ride easier. Ive ridden in very hot temps and no problems had my bike for 3 months and have 4100 miles on it. So as you can see I ride it alot. My only wish was that there were no speed limits then life would be less stressful........hehe

Carry Lemon pledge in your tank bag and a soft cotton cloth. One can of pledge (7oz size) will last about 16 months of riding. My friends used to carry everything from windex to plain water and have all converted to the pledge.......believe it or not hehe. If you note in my above post this is one of the things i carry to make the ride easier. It also cleans the windshield too as well as any painted surface of the bike. Do not get this stuff on the tires though..........

Some of the other things i carry is a clear faceshield in case i get caught on a long trip at night and small can of chain lube extra ear plugs and lots of quarters, in case my cellular phone wont work. I also carry a mini mag lite and a couple of bungee cords along with my cherry rush gator aid and a banana power bar. The trick with the cherry rush is to freeze half of a bottle then just before you ride pour the rest in and carry it in an insulated cover. Last all friggin day....................

I'm going to try the pledge, I keep a soft cloth under the map holder because the shield gets pretty dirty way before 100 miles.
Thanks

Damn, Vegas, you're the man! I've been riding in the West (lots of long rides in hot weather) for 20 years, and hadn't thought of half of that stuff. Thanks!

Carry a spare master link, that's my suggestion.

No problem, Mr. Bear. One question though since the busa does not have a master link if my chain breaks will it still work. If it does ill get one and thanks for the suggestion...........

Good point on the tire repair kit I carry the one sold by aerostitch. But i dont carry it in my bag i carry it in the tail of the bike...................its the co2 type.

That Pledge is magic stuff Vegas. I've been using it for years on the plastic windows of my boat's convertible top.

Pledge was made to make the scratches in fine wooden furniture optically disappear, and it does the same for lucite/plastic. etc.

It also coats your visor with something (silicone I guess) so you can use the leather palm of your gloves to wipe bugs off your visor while you're riding without fear of scratching the visor.

I carry the Honda spray cleaner & polish 5oz size, stays in the rear compartment. Emergency tire repair kit,sun glasses under clear shield. Oh yea Rolaids to.

The Busa humptrunk is excellent.

I carry a Leatherman multitool to make up for that crap OE toolkit, an exterior tire repair kit, a local map book, lots of earplugs, visor spray and a cloth diaper (the best rags in the world!), phone coins, a $50 bill, an aluminum sidestand plate and gum.

Glad Ziplock resealable freezer bags are a great way to contain stuff in the trunk and prevent moisture from getting at things.

I'll drink to Leatherman tools. My daughter bought me one for fathers day 8-9 years ago and it hasn't been out of reach since. The one to have now-a-days is the Wave Leatherman. Unfortunately $90.

Pledge is good stuff...we used to use it on our corfam inspection uniform shoes (patent leather) when I was in the Navy.

As for drive chain repair Vegas, you probably have to figure out how to do it in your workshop before you set out, and take the tools you would need with you. I had a master link fail on my 1100 in Alaska once, and got a 300 mile hitchhiking adventure out of it. The guy who mounted my new tires before my trip re-installed the master link bone-dry, and I got burned.

You would probably need two master links and one of the inside links to really be covered for a road repair. But if you snapped a link on an endless chain, you would need a way to drill out the pin from the broken link on the road. And if you swallowed the chain and split an engine case, you'd be fucked anyway.

Based on how small a master link is, and how cheap, and the fact that I got burned once, I carry one now. According to Murphy's Law, that assures I'll never need it!

A scalpel and bendable drinking straw, very very minty gum, wig/moustache/hornrim glasses, sandpaper, black greasepaint, uppers and downers, sometimes my cousin-in-law Earl.

Dirty Pete, with a nickname like yours I would think carrying condoms would be required. One gross of xtra large ???

Seriously, does anybody carry tools, 2-3 sockets, spare light bulbs? duct tape? spark plugs? What do you carry? Or am I the only tool freak.

Vegasdude... I tried the Pledge on my faceshields. Very good call.

I've been riding between 100 and 200 miles a day the last couple weeks, busier than poop and haven't gotten the pledge yet but if I wipe the bugs off as soon as they hit my shield stays pretty clean. When it starts to get messy I lick my hand under my helmet wipe the screne and then wipe with the cloth :( But I can see clearly then :) On my H.D.'s I carry wrenches with 2 diff. sizes on the ends, screw drivers, small rolls duct tape, hex head set.couple small piece of wire, small channel locks, spark plugs and the whole tool chest. :)
