Hi

I Have a 99 busa which i use daily for transport to work when
traveling at low revs like in a traffic que which seems to be every morning these days the bus runs very jumpy lumpy
almost like im running in the incorrect gear any body had this problem

cheers gary

In slow traffic and in 2nd or 3rd gear my 05 busa has a slight surge also. I think it's pretty much normal for these beasts, I've read other threads that address the same issue.

I suggest you check your air filter once... bikes some time run bad at lower speed if the air filter is clogged bad!!

...

thanks for your replys glade to here it isnt just me that is having this issue maybe
the beast just wants to be unleashed and not sat in traffic

regarding the air filter that was my first thought so i have replaced it

thanks gary

As far as I'm concerned it is the nature of the beast. My 05 had the same thing until I piped and re-programmed.

thanks for the info CorrodedAlien

my idle is pretty low i will speed it up a little and give it a try  what have you got yours set to ?

when you say 50 do you mean 50 kph

thanks gary

idle rpm on mine is around 850, it does have some off idle hessitation if i am just putting around town but it smooths out quickly when the throttle is opened up.

i have a 05 that did the same thing the fix for the problem is tps sensor is out of adjustment set it using a multi meter to 1.14 v max with throttle closed(yellow wire & black wire for 05)  if you go over 1.14v the -C00 bar will go to high but by doing this throttle responce and low rpm crusing improved alot also smothed out jumpy  surge in the 2000 to 4000 rpm range hope this helps

you idle rpms should be at 1150  +- 50 by the service manual

i agree too much slack in the chain will make the surge or jump feel even worse because of loading and unloading of the chain tension. but surging at low rpms under load like going up hill is not gonna be that your chain is loose.mine did it on flat road & up hills it was constantly annoying. also check your spark plugs if they have been in there for more than 7000 miles

wonder if the rpm should be 1150 when a adjust the tps censor to 1.14 v

I have a 99 model and got it sorted.
1 )The best solution is the T R E or timimg retard eliminator, these are usually available from some good mail order stockists and E-Bay, and range from £20 to £60 ( $30 - $80 ) just do a "google" for TRE.
Most fuel injected suzuki's benefit from this as the timming is retarded in the first 3 gears, this little device just plugs in at the gearbox output and "fools the ECU into thinking the bike is in 5th gear.
This TRE totaly fixed all the surging and rough running my bike was having. I even spent 4 hours on a dyno, and bought a powercommander at a cost of £400 an still could not fix the problem, untill i got this TRE and just pluged it in.
The TRE is available for the busa, GSXR 1000, 750 , TL1000, SV 1000, DL1000 V-Strom, etc, and is interchangable with all of them.( one device fits all )

2 )On a seperate note, all 99 and some early 2000 models have fuel filter problems. Small particles of copper from the impeller blades from the fuel pump, clog up the fuel filters causing rough running, stalling, cutting out. The solution, well just remove them, as i did, and a number of other owners have done, it will run fine without the filters as the particles can, and do pass through the injectors. The particles can only be seen under a microscope and are really tiny so wont cause any problems, If you leave filters in you will be replacing your filters every 3000 miles or sooner, and takes about 2 - 4 hours depending on your mechanical ability.

3 ) check your fuel lines ( 99 - 2000 models) The fuel lines tend to kink from the tank to the pump causing fuel starvation, if you lift up your tank have a look at them, your supposed to turn the return hose 1/8th of a turn to stop the hose kinking as you set down the tank.
Suzuki knows of this problem and the 2001 models onward got new fuel pumps and had them fitted inside the tank. However suzuki have never publicly admitted the problem, instead many owners who complained enough got new fuel pumps fitted under warranty, and the rest of us were left to sort or figure it out for ourselves.

I hope this helps many of you, who like me, own or have bought the early models and thought it was normal for a bit of rough running , spluttering between 2000 -3500 rpm and just put up with it. Well it can be fixed easily and permanently an does not require Powercommander's or dyno time, trust me ive tried it cost me hundreds $$$$ and the solution lay in a 5 minute plug in TRE device that cost me £20. Google around the net for more info or try here http://200mph.net/ for detailed pictures, and descriptions of everything ive been talking about !
