Lowering Links

Ok, I've looked all over, to include google and other forums...

Does anyone know the stock length of Gen 1 dog bones?

I think the previous owner of my bike might have lowered it, I'd like to know what that length is to know what to look for or order so I can raise it up a lil. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if Gen I and Gen II are the same, but Gen II's measure 4 3/4" center to center(give or take a 1/32" or so,just threw a ruler on the pair I took off of mine when I switched to adjustable lowering links).

Not sure but pretty short bro,I'm lowered about 1 1/2" in the front and 2 1/2" to 3" in the rear(which is plenty low, have a couple of flattened header tubes thanks to not noticing a damned speed bump in time:D).

Can't really tell by these pics but the bottom of my fairings(front edges)are only 3" off the ground. Can't really go any lower in the rear with the OEM undertail as it'll rub on the 200/55 rear tire with my lard ass on it.:D

Yeah I love mine... I started with r6 x2, went to victory 8 ball then gave the dream up for a lil over a year and found mine. Even tho she the oldest bike I've had I think is the best and most comfortable. Lol and wifey likes it so even better lol

Thanks bro,I don't think I could own anything else now.Went the turbo route on my last one but think this one is my favorite out of the 3.Funny thing is,I owned a dozen H-D's over a 30 year stretch, was a tattoo artist for 15 years(finally had to give it up because of carpel tunnel)and must've done at least a 100 H-D tattoos without ever getting one on myself(H-D tattoo that is),and have been so infatuated with Busas I went to Jack Rudy in Anaheim about 6 years ago and got a kanji(with a skull, flames, broken bones, etc. to signify my 2 pretty rough crashes).:D

You asked how short the links can go. You realize that lengthening the link will lower the bike? Are you trying to raise the bike beyond stock?
Yes, I'm trying to raise it. I think in its past life, a midget owned it. I am 6'4" tall, at this te it's under stock height, I would like to get it at the very least to stock if not an inch or two higher...

Raising the rear will steepen the rake and quicken the steering. But I'd be cautious how much I raised it. You could really make the bike unstable. Shortening the link 1/4" should raise the rear about 2" and bring you back to stock.

Yeah, ok so I found some bones at a bike shop, they gave them to me for free cause they were sitting around. The only issue I see is the material just seems so weak, it's very lite compared to the ones on there now... at the shortest link they are a quarter shorter than the ones on there now. My understanding, that would be stock (4 3/4"). What yall think?!

Alot of the aftermarket links are aluminum. I'm thinking that's what you got from the shop? (Adjustable via 3 mounting holes) If your not wanting the adjustment option, I'd ask around for a set of stock bones. Things get bad real quick if one fails. That's not to say the aluminim ones fail. I know guys who have racked up alot of miles with em.

My only concern is safety, I was a lil scared to feel the weight difference. U think they should be alright? The dude said they came off of an R6...
