Lowering

I've seen several people mention that they have lowered their bikes. Looking at it, it looks pretty low already. Why would you want to lower it further (outside of purely looks) and how would you go about doing it without compromising the ride or safety?

Surely more intelligent responses will follow:

Why...
1) you are short
2) you want that "slammed" look
3) you drag race your bike and want to help keep the front down
4) all the cool kids are doing it

How to do the front...
1) triple tree replacement designed to allow the fork tubes to slide through (Pro Machining)... recommended technique
2) lowing spacers
3) strap (not recommended for anything other than drag racing)

How to do the rear...
1) Lowering links, dog bones
2) lowing links (fully adjustable)

Here's a pick of the Triple Tree:

Not the greatest pic... but here's the Dog Bones:

Here's a profile with it lowered a little:

In the pic above you can see how much of the fork tubes are slid up through the triple.

Here's a couple of the Dogbone (...and yes... it's dirty...):

Doesn't look like it takes a whole lot of effort. Is it much trouble to do these mods if one doesn't have a whole lot of experience wrenching on bikes?

To me it looks simple. Given you have the right equipment and tools & of course a buddy to help you, should be just fine.

BTW, that's a nice looking Red Busa Cecil_Stringer. Was the upper fork clamp expensive???

Purchase top plate spacers..Reaper? round aluminum..longer bolts..keeping the stock bar mount...slide forks up.
buy or make your own dog bones..mines lowerd 3/4"..handles sweet and feels like it lost weight...Happy....still gotta lean waaay over to scrape a peg...

Come out with a few others and myself and I'll show you WHY you don't want a lowered Busa here in Washington State.

Some of the greatest roads are right in your backyard.

Unlesssssss, you are a drag-racer?

Well, I have as SV1000S for our lovely backroads. This would be primarily a highway cruiser. If there are no good reasons to lower the bike, I doubt I'll bother.

The thing is, if you have a lowered Hayabusa and you are out with out Busas if they hit the twisties, I guarantee you will be scraping and left far behind.

All depends on how far you lower it. The best reason for lowering it would be for height reasons, but mine will be lowered to level the bike, help with launching the bike and looks.

Exactly what BigBS said. "It depends on HOW FAR you lower it..." I lowered mine about one and one-quarter inch in front and about the same in the back. I did mine strictly for the track. I bought the lowering triple tree because it seems a whole lot more simpler than the strap since you can't use the straps in the twisties. This way my bike is ALWAYS set up for whatever riding I want to do.

ask RaiderDM and Revlis about this man's lowered busa through the twisties.

They can tell you how it looked from the rear... sparks and all..

Up until I over shot the corner... but that's another story

Don't tell LoBusa that.

Her Busa is lowered, and in the twisties with 10 other Busa's hittin' it, she was up in the front. Don't know about the scraping part.

Lowering looks cool. I just love the twisties way to much to sacrifice the option of scraping for someone elses enjoyment.
