man vs wild anyone else addicted?

The show is good , but misleading, If you pay attention to the disclaimer that flashes across the screen its pretty much set up every situation he is in . there is some funny youtube footage also ! Now he is still nuts and i do enjoy it some times

I'm sorry but Bear Gryll's is an idiot! 90% of the stuff he does in his show flies in the face of conventional wisdom when it comes to true survival situations. It is entertaining though! The dude goes out of his way to kill something on every show! I prefer Survivorman myself. He goes out for a week with no direct support and uses true survival techniques for his show.

I'm a big fan and my kids love the show too! Gotta love that British humor...the guy is a star.

I like both of them, I would have to agree though, survivorman is a bit better in my opinion.

Never know, some of the tidbits of information and situations, set up or not, could make a difference some day

closest most people will ever get to "wilderness" is the Holiday Inn...

Now the guys that ride the Southwest? better use some brains.. Desert is a killer if you get stupid.. I like Survivor man myself... Bear is sure entertaining though..

I doubt I would be climbing rock walls, going down root water falls or skating down the front of a glacier any time soon

Survivorman is significantly less flashy but a lot more relevant and actually useful.

The toolbox "actor" in Man VS Wild is little more than a self impressed wannabee that is demonstrating techniques that should NEVER EVER be attempted under any circumstances. It's not survival it's brutal stupidity and will likely end up getting someone killed attempting some of the dumb stuff he demonstrates. Climbing trees, jumping into water, on and on with the brutal stupidity. Behaviors that if mimicked will certainly hasten death if stuck in the wild...

So, to answer the question, Man Vs Wild is a crock a sham, and simply shouldn't be on the air because in plain english he's incompetent and has likely never EVER been to a Survival school anywhere, Aircrew or otherwise, he's a menace and should be off air.

Unfortunately TLC, History, Discovery etc are all becoming victims of the lowest common denominator in order to increase viewership. Been to a Natural History Museum lately? Same thing here, dumbed down for easy digestion...

Umm... Sorry, Got sorta spun up there...

In other words... Enjoy the show, just remember NOT to try and use ANYTHING from it for survival.

That's perfect! And exactly what I was talking about... "Cross the Crevasse" when you are 100yards from civilization? Sure thing, do it when you are actually lost? No need, don't do it.

Remember, best thing you can do if lost in the woods, is:

1. REALIZE YOU ARE IN TROUBLE, ASAP ACCEPT IT, start preparing! Don't fool yourself, and compound things.

2. DON'T PANIC Just like hitch hikers guide...

3. STAY PUT! Especially if you have people that are going to miss you and you are with your vehicle. NEVER EVER leave your vehicle! It's big, excellent shelter, and if it comes down to it, NOTHING in the wild, produces as much thick billowy smoke as a car tire w/ a tiny little bit of gasoline... Nothing, you can see it for miles and miles and it burns for a long time...

Cannot over emphasize the "STAY PUT", no it's not glamorous like this Bear Toolbox, but it's the mistake most people make and they die of exposure, falls, etc while wondering aimlessly in the woods. SEARCHERS are pretty good, and they ALWAYS find vehicles, Always!

Bear Grylis is an entertainer plain and simple!.. He loves to do dangerous stuff and somehow ends up buck naked in freezing temperatures while doing push-ups and other calisthenics in every other episode. He is there to get ratings from the full range of viewers; ladies and fruitcakes included. He's done plenty of other shows.
From Wikipedia:
"He then joined the British Army's Special Forces reserve, serving for three years as a Specialist Combat Survival Instructor and Patrol Medic[11] with the 21 SAS regiment."
end quote

What he does in the show is directed by a group of experts to illustrate what could be done in a hypothetical situation.. Eating creepy crawlies is the last thing on your list of priorities for survival.. Shelter and water are the first assuming you aren't injured.. He seems to demonstrate techniques for surviving extensive periods in the wild rather than just a few days.. Most of us huskie Americans have more than enough fat to go a few days or weeks without food.

Never thought I would be quoting you Projekt but here we are....you're absolutely right! Bear is an entertainer and a damn good one at that. If you're watching your TV to learn how to survive in the wild you may have additional issues besides wether or not to stay with your car. I watch my TV for entertainment and this guy is a fantastic entertainer not to mention an experienced adventurer. When I'm not trying to do much of the same stuff I'm living vicariously through him.
