Melting Plastics Muzzy Pipe

I'm finally putting her back together today...even though Rochester still has 4 foot of snow on the ground!

Well I was putting the Fairings back on when I noticed the Belly wing touches the Midpipe from that new Muzzy system I put on. I tried using some washers to lower it down but it still touches. I really do not want melted plastics.

I tried moving the Midpipe with no success. I put some Aluminum tape on there but I think it won't save me either.

I'm not to crazy about cutting the belly wing and don't want to replace it with a metal one either.

What options do I have? Do any of you Muzzy guys have this prob?

How much clearance do I need?

Thanks

Don't have a muzzy, have a BDE. I didn't have any problem with my belly wing touching the pipe, just try and use some more force to move the pipe. I'm sure it will move.

I have the Muzzy and I had some silver asbestos looking cloth from a car laying around, (I think it was wrap on a line going to a heater core) anyways I cut it nice and taped it with aluminum foil tape to inside of fairing and the pipe exit and no problems with heat whatsover. I also did put a few of the muzzy shims actually all of them but I dont really think I had too. Also my pipe never really touched fairing anyways, I just did all these precautions because I heard of some others having heat problems with the muzzy

Try getting some header tape at your local rod shop they carry it and wrap it around that area...it kept mine from melting..

My mid pipe touched the belly wing until I went through and re-fit my system. Loosen everything up and start at the muffler and work forward. As far as fit, the header has the most play. Get the mid pipe and muffler can where you want it and tighten it down, then work your way forward finishing with the header bolts. Once I did that, my muzzy fits like a glove and doesn't touch the plastic any where.

Be patient and take you time, you'll get it on there correctly.

Good luck

My muzzy does fit close but after repositioning the mid pipe I havent had any melting issues with mine. I did use the heat tape on the wing just in case.

Thanks to All

I'm gonna give her a try later this week.

Cycleeric,

Did you do that undertail?

How did you get it so nice?

Please tell me!

I'm sooo jelous

Easiest way is to go and buy some of the heat shielding material at a local parts store. Either that or some heat wrap around the headers and midpipe.

I removed the stock tag light turned the tag bracket upside down then cut straight across the fender and used the piece I cut off to mark the remaining fender so it would look like it was the factory shape and used a dremel to shape and polish the edge
