Myrtle Beach... Miami is not so much as a bike event as it is a beach event.
Myrtle B has had problems in the past some racially inclined but there are some changes this year that are suppose to make it more inviting. But sides of the street are suppose to be open-compared to one side going one way the past 3 years. Also there are more scheduled events this year-they are being held at the convention center. More dealers and aftermarket reps are suppose to be here this year.
As far as places closing down---some of that is hype. Most of the retailers will tell you that Mem-Day Weekend is the biggest money maker of the year, and they stay open 24hrs a day to make the cash. As for hotels prices going up-thats true but 2 things one should consider prices in most hotels go up memorial day weekend because its the beginning of the summer season, and its a big money weekend-basic supply and demand. The same is true in Daytona Beach during bike week, the same hotel I pay $60 a night for cost me well over $200 a night for Daytona Bikeweek. So that just buisness.
Now the cops thats another story. I've been to Harley Bike week in Myrtle Beach as well as Memorial Day. The cops are stricter memorial day without doubt. I talked to a hotel manager about it and he said this, " Harley week occurs before the the summer season begins about 2 weeks before memorial day and things are more lenient because there are less people there and definitely less families. Memorial Day weeknd brings in a lot of families so you have families and bikers and 350,000 people compared to 150k-170k so the dynamics are different.
Personally, I think its a good event to attend, just keep your head in place, follow the laws, and control the hand on the throttle..... also everyone that looks 18 aint soooooooooooooo ..............
