Metzeler M5

Yes. I'm fairly happy with them. I've worn them to the edges with nothing but confidence in wet, dry, and airborne conditions.

Awesome. I've always been a Metzeler fan on all of my bikes, but haven't had them on my busa yet.

Ditto that. I keep meaning to try something different, but I have had zero issues with the Sportec M5s that weren't foreign-object-induced and they work well for me and my riding habits. I'm getting ready to order another rear for my upcoming NC/TN/GA trip.

I think I ran an M3 on the rear of my '06 many years ago and it was fun while it lasted. Absolute rolling burnouts, but that was the M3. Ran Michelin PP2CTs and been running Avon Storms on the '08 since the factory stuff wore out.

Ok, now I'm having doubts about the M5s after this weekend. The first M5 I ran developed a bulge in the center tread. I had been debating whether or not it had enough life for a ride down to Shady Valley, TN, and decided to pull it and put a new M5 on. That's when I noticed the bulge. I was happy to have replaced that tire, even though it appeared to have plenty of life in it.

We went to Ravenswood, WV, this past weekend for my girlfriend's 20th high school reunion. Took 50 from Winchester, VA, to Parkersburg, WV, and hooked south. Had a great ride and a great time socializing (getting drunk and loud), and we left Ravenswood on Sunday morning. The tire looked good. No wear bars, plenty of tread in my estimation, and pressure was good.

We headed out on 33E and were just getting into Glenville (~75 miles after we left Ravenswood) and were halfway through a right-hander running about 60 when I heard a loud pop. I pulled into the first driveway I could find and found a dime-sized hole in the center tread. I was starting to see cords along the center strip, and the wear bars still weren't showing. I plugged the tire, rode to Glenville, and had a long, strange Fourth of July involving lots of effort to get my bike home.

Anyway, I have enjoyed my time with Metzeler. I have no issues with the ME880s on my cruiser, but these Sportecs are leaving me with that sour feeling in my gut. They handle great in pretty much any condition, but the wear reaches turbo mode without really showing any hint that you're about to hit cords.

The first tire with the bulge I chalked up to the luck of the draw. But the blowout I had on Sunday has me reevaluating my affection for the Sportecs.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I have a new rear M5 coming that I ordered before we left this weekend so that's what I'm going to run on my Smokies trip later this month. I may try a Roadtec on the rear with the Sportec M5 up front after that, or I may give the BT-023/BT-016 combo a try.

What kind of mileage do you see from them? I'm game to try something new to me.

I was looking at the m5 as a q2 replacement, till i priced them. 199$ q2's have me spoiled, but 2000 miles a set is not cutting it for me either.

I use to Continental Attacks- they ran pretty well as its a touring /performance tire. The Profile is nice and the tread is deep

I have the m3 front and rear and they were better than the maxxis I had. But my dad took back a metzler, I received a bad rear, that I had to send back (buldge) and now I think Im having tire issues again. I have 5k and they still looking good tread wise, but I'm going a different route next time.

Git a new set of M5's mounted last night. Going to give them a nice break in this weekend with my sportbike riding buddies. I will report my impressions on monday of the new Metzler's.

Sicen starting this thread, I've run a set of M5's on my busa for about 5000 miles. I only have about 1000 miles left on them, which should get me through the end of the season when I put the bike away in November. These tires have been great, and I wouldn't expect anything less from Metzeler. They've been great in the long distance rides I have done, which is the majority of the riding I do. They're also awesome in the corners and suprisingly grippy in cold weather, which is key here in New England. I do a lot of riding in the rain where these tires also perform wonderfully.

I paid about $300 for the pair (not including the cost to mount them) and I think they've been worth every penny. After shredding this set of tires, I'd highly recommend them to anyone else!

Oh, and by the way, my elephants are all beheaded at this point!

Rode 300+ miles on the M5's last weekend and am very happy with them so far. They are much smoother at speed than the Q2's. Turn in is neautral and grio is excellent. I have yet to ride them in the cold or wet. I hope I can get 3000+ miles out of them.

I got 6500 miles out of my set. Lots of commuting with a little bit of spirited riding mixed in. Carried me through most of the Fla. summer.
As the rear started to show wear, it went rather quick. Very noticeable in the wet.
