Ok its time for new tires for the busa and the 600rr. I run metzeler m1's and have been pretty happy. Anyone run these then went to the m3's? pros/cons?

I dont do track days...just some twisties in the mountains...

Thanks Joey

M1's are the old tire...M3 is the new and much improved version...why would you want to run the out dated version

not really true on that statement.....just just because it is new does not mean better....

any help out there guys... i need to order the tires this week......thanks

I had the M3's before my new pilot powers. I won't run a Metzeler again. When it went bad, it went real bad in a real hurry.

They lasted all of 2,000 miles and were only sticky for the first half. After that they were like my stock tires. Only difference is stock took 4,000 miles to get to that point.

Very unhappy with Metzeler. Very happy with PPs.

I have ridden on the M3 trust me when I say this YOU WILL NOT be disappointed they are awesome tires and stick really well on the twisties.

Love the M3s...I'll get almost 4,500 out of the rear and don't ride like grandma, including the occasional 180+ runs. Got 4,000 (cord peaking through) out of stock BT-56.

I get alittle better miles 2up on the M1+p then the M3s. And I don't run much different 2-up, yes alittle less agressive in the corners but she won't let me go much slower or she smacks me in the back. I do run the M3 around local twisties and swap rear wheels for highway. I do run the M3 on front always. My only issue is I've notice is I sometimes wouldn't need any weight to balance the rear for the M1+p in the past, but my last 2-3 tires have needed alot where the M3 didn't. Very funny. One of the wheel bearings was getting a slight tick so I changed them out but it made no difference in the balance. This has only been with the last couple so I think I'm going to burn these up and try the Dunlop Qualifers finally. Anyone else had a balance issue lately? Not to jack his thread but if others are and it just isn't me he may want to know.

Ps. Valve marks were lined up and we actually remounted rotating marks to lessen wgt.

I ran the M1 before and would never buy them again. I switched to the newer M3's and again, will never use them again. Mine were complete crap. They seemed to get slippery and glazed over pretty easy. The M1's got flat spotted and cupped real bad. The M3's are doing the same after only about 800 miles. I am taking them off and switching to something else.

So my vote, is neither tire.

Your poll is 10-0 M3's over the M1's

I've been emailing back and forth with Metzeler.

They stated in their email that the M1 +P was specifically designed for the Hayabusa (it's torque and top speed), whereas the M3 has NOT been. As such, they DID NOT recommend using the M3's on the Hayabusa for safety reasons.

Quote: "This bike needs special tires because of the speed and chassis design so M-1 P specs are the only tires approved at this time.

US Metzeler Moto"

Thoughts, feelings?

BTW, I'm using the M3's and absolutely love them over the stock tires. Having said that, I know I don't push the 'Busa to anywhere near it's limit, so I hope I'm okay.

ok

i put the m3's on my 600 rr first as a test....ran them on the georgia loop and the dragon.... very hot days with sticky asphalt.... they did not impress me.....not sticky at all and i did heat cycle them......then let one of the local gap regulars try the bike on the dragon and he agreed with my opinion.... even tried a change in air pressure.....so my next set will be pilot powers.....which seems to be the choice up here they run.... much softer tires..... oh well.. live and learn.....joey

Here's what one dealer claims on the M3's comparing to the M1's

New M-3 Sportec contains more silica called "DuraSil" than its predecessor the M-1. The profiles of the front and rear are unique, with the front being rounded, and the rear having a multi-radius that changes from the center to the edge, with the middle crown portion having a flatter shape to provide a larger contact area to get more power to the ground after passing the apex of the corner. The new profile goes with a new tread pattern with a modern look and designed to make important improvements. The land/sea ratio is designed to maximize dry grip guaranteeing a good feeling in wet conditions and reducing aquaplaning. The patented zero degree steel belt is settled to make the bike more stable, keeping a perfect trajectory, avoiding the tendency to right itself even when braking into the corner. This improves the confidence of the rider in every condition.
40% better dry grip than Sportec M-1
20% better wet grip than Sportec M-1
50% better mileage than Sportec M-1

In it's 130 year history Metzeler has always satisfied the motorcycle market demands with innovation. Metzeler has always been an industry leader, setting trends that others are still trying to achieve.

And like i said...the newer model not always better...i should have went with m1's - but the busa will probably be getting m1's and the cbr pilot powers..... live and learn.....cant always believe what ya read...thanks for all the help though guys...

+1

had the M-1 P-Spec Front/Back with no complaints and tires lasted me about 5-6K on the rear. Took the front off to go lower profile and had plenty of tred left after 5K.

Starting changing over to PP and do think they stick good, but maybe I will go with new 015 tire for 2008 busa instead next time...

maybe my opinion will not be that valid because riding conditions differ greatly from those in america but i prefer pilot powers or pilot sport.they gave milage and very good handling!
