Micron Pipe

Bluebusa,I recently installed the full system with carbon can on my 99.The pipe came from my friends bike on the east coast who had a slide on the left side, the pipe was probable one of the very first pipes made for the busa. After I tryed a rough fit to the bike I saw the number #2 down pipe was going to make contact with the oil cooler.I called micron and they sent me some instructions for the pipe. The rep said some of the early pipes were tight fits.So I decided to cut 1/4 to 7/16 inch off the #2 down pipe and it fit with 3/16 of an inch clearance between the #2 pipe and the oil cooler.I also used the spacer for the oil cooler line, and two washers between the the the oil cooler and radiator support bolt where the two come together on the left side to give me some more clearance for the #2 down pipe.As per instructions the whole system fits real close to the sump, but stress relieves after you run it awhile.

Micron had a few problems with a close fit on thier first pipes...they sent me new ones that worked and fit perfectly. They are coming out with some new products that are as great for looks as they are hp...

I had the same fitment problem with early pipe they said it was installed wrong at the dealer. I went through it myself and they were bent wrong. They still said it installation problem. This is after they already knew some were wrong. I had another dealer get new set of headers and presto fit is right now. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER MICRON.

Has anyone had problems with poor fit on the Full Micron System? Also if yours fit did you have to use the included adaptors?

Nukinfuts,I'm curious did you ask Micron to exchange your pipe for one that fit correctly?I recently had a dealing with Micron due to an oversite in some wording in a post I made on this site.(Does anyone on this page have a Micron)it is about 6 or 7 pages back.A customer service rep who was monitoring this site jumped all over my head about it,and I corrected the word and apologized. He could not stress enough their dedication to customer service in a written letter to me,so maybe its time to put their money where their mouth is?

I know of several people that had problems with the Micron not fiting right. One of my closest friends has one on his busa, and the damn thing touches his lowers right under his brake lever. He's going to have to cut his lowers because it melted against the pipe!

Looks to me like Micron just got in a hurry early on so they could claim some of the aftermarket pipe game!!!

I'm glad I didn't put thier shittt on my bike!

BILLY V, in my talks with micron I had stated that the headers (#2) could not possibly fit right by moving them around.I tried it. Well they talked like customer satisfaction was their concern but like I said it took a micron dealer to get new headers ;a 4 hour drive one way and 50 bucks for another install. Someone mentioned an alteration solution cutting the header and spacing the cooler and fairing you dont pay $750 odd dollars to go through that crap. The part that pisses me off the most is that the problems I discussed with them were tell tale of the bad pipes they shipped. This was my experience maybe for others their different.Maybe not.

If its touching the fairing he does not have it properly installed...they are much like the akrapovic you are able to move it around to get it where you want it. I had one of the very first pipes and it was very close to the oil cooler but other than that it fit fine. I also have seen several more and NO ONE has fairing fit problems.

I`d like to add...the mechanical ability on this board is as broad as the atlantic ocean...some do not need a wrench in thier hand and there is some real pros on here. I hope I fall somewhere in between. I have seen complaints about yosh, akrapovic, micron, two brothers, muzzy and most all products. Lots of times it is improper installation....and of course sometimes its not. No group of people are going to be happy with the same product...I say get what makes you happy and what fits your pocket book. All pipe manufactors have people that think thier pipe is the best and others that hate them. My main experience with micron is I really do think they are dedicated to customer service and have taken steps to correct any problems that they had.

If you have installed pipes before you should no what is right or wrong.
Micron definitely had what I was told was a bout 30 pipes with the #2 pipe bent wrong(last summer-early). It was a QC issue. They sent me all new head pipes and at that time they also changes to a thicker head pipe flange. The pipe does not touch the radiator, it does not touch the fairing. Make sure you leave all connections loose before final tightening to insure the proper positioning.
If its still wrong and you have a receipt--return it or get a replacement.
I only have good things to say about Micron and the power my bike made after installation. 166 HP
In fairness the Micron is also $300 less than an Akra.

I HAD A MICRON,NOW I HAVE A YOSH/DUPLEX.AFTER FIGHTING ALL SUMMER TRYING TO GET UPPER END POWER,I FINALLY SWITCHED.MICRON MADE GOOD MIDRANGE POWER BUT AFTER 10000RPM MY BIKE LOST 16HP,THAT'S JUST TO MUCH.WITH THE YOSH I PICKED UP 4HP PEAK AND 8HP AT 10800.THE YOSH IS A STEPPED HEADER WITH BIGGER PRIMARY TUBES AND LARGER CORE 21/4 TO 2" FOR THE MICRON.

is this loss of power after 10,000rpm a common thing with every one who has a micron? i have a brand new micron system waiting to go on should i be worrying about top end power losses?

maniac

Nuckinfuts, it seems this was a common problem with the #2 down pipe.As I said before I got my pipe from my friend who slide his bike,so I did not have to pay anything for it.I asked Micron if they would sell me another #2 down pipe and the rep said they do not like to break up sets.I had no choice but to cut and fit the pipe myself. My friend who originaly bought the pipe from Micron said it was a tough fit.Only because I got it for free would I try it on my bike.

I have the cure here at my house now...micron has out a new can with 2 1/2 inch full competition baffle...the can is 15 to 20% larger and from dyno test adds 2-3 hp but the big advantage is it levels out the peak HP to redline. It also comes in a chromed stainless steel and the chrome work is fantastic. I think this will be the cure all for anyone not satisfied....I will post more with pics at a later date. Don`t buy anything until you at least check this new can out!!!
