modified hump

well i needed more storage so i modified the hump by cutting a rectangular hole aprrox. 7"x5" then i cut a peice of 1/8" aluminum approx. 1/2"bigger than hole i then used velcro to hold it in place and it works like a champ i have about $5.00 in this.

I'm really curious as to how this looks, I just can't seem to picture it in my mind. Do you have a photo of the mod that you can email me, or post in a public album on photopoint? I'd really like to see how this came out.

it actually looks quite good i'll post some pictures soon the aluminum is still unfinished i will powder coat or paint then probably put a hayabusa sticker on it i have the template still if interested i could email it i considered making these for sale the velcro works real well i cut the hole as large as i could make it after all put together it is still as solid as it was before

'lanta,

just an option if you're interested, you can modify the hump to fit over the hand rail. I saw a picture a few months back, not sure who or which board. I did it to mine a few weeks ago. It actually looks better than I thought it would. I'll probably cut the bottom out of the hump one day soon.

You guys are making this too hard. I just cut the white plastic thing in three pieces and threw away the middle piece. I can stuff it with a sweatshirt or a jacket or shorts and the zip out liner from my leather jacket and a pair of Nike Aqua socks. Frees up a lot of storage space in the bottom half of my trunk. I also cut out the raised portion of the trunk floor that the tool kit sat on. I haven't finalized how to finish it yet, but every cubic inch of space helps. Has anyone experimented with lowering the trunk floor?

Kirk,

I did your mod last summer and wish I had been more conservative with my cuts/used incorrect cut tool. Would like to be able to close off the area with this "removable door, although you are on the money when you say you can stuff that booger full when there is no "door" on the hump butt. I would like to see the template mentioned as well. I never thought of a totally removable door with velcro.

Excellent approach to the problem, busa 2.

The expanding of the trunk floor has been done as well. Will see if I can get the modifier to post his info.

Kirk, you're probably right, but some of us are real anal when it comes to attention to detail and want it to look good as well as function well.

Doing the same mod myself, will post pic's and details up on my site when it's done.

I also used a 7" x 5" hole in the hump base (white part) but fabricated a door out of flat carbon fiber stock (available through Lockhart-Phillips). I am using hinges and a locking mechanism (non-key, hump already locks) available at any Home Depot.

You can stuff a lot of cucka in there! :)

Will let you know when it's finished and up on the site.

It's a great idea and one that Suzuki missed the boat on.

A couple months back someone had pics somewhere I think labusas where they cut the white plastic and put hinges/hasp on it, looked good.

I was trying to avoid using the "A" word. I tend to be that way myself. Mine was a simple mod, but I did a clean job of it. I installed shims under three corners of the white plastic thing on the mount bolts when I put it back on the hump to even up the hump and it's gaps with the tail.

I'm not bothering because I'm scared of it anyway, as in someone rear-ends you instant broken spine?
Besides I can pack more crap onto the seat with my bungee net than will fit in there...
