Mom has taken a turn for the worse

I just got a call from my brother. Mom has 2 bacterial infections (this is not new). They have had her on 4 of the most powerful antibiotics known to medicine. The specialist told Paul, Dad and Aunt Lynn about an hour ago that the antibiotics are not working at all. They are actually detrimental to mom's organs. There is nothing else that can be done. They are going to take her off the antibiotics later this week. Either the bacteria or the blood clot will take her. It is just a matter of what happens first, blood clot break loose or the bacterium hits her blood stream. My presence isn't required immediately so I am sticking with the plan of driving to Houston on Friday.

Our prayers are with you and all of your family. Tell "mom" ,"we all wish we could be there" should you make it in time.
 
I will make it in time. If things go from bad to worse. I will jump on the bike and head down. I haven't started the tear down yet.

I feel your pain bro, I lost my mother 2 days after Christmas she'd just turned 69 on Dec. 2. I know she is in a better place,and though that sounds rehearsed I truly believe that. I pray that your Mom will pull through the pain, I am also praying for you and your family and friends.

I am soo sorry Don. I've been there I know what your dealing w/. Except I wasn't 18 hrs. away. Just be calm about getting there. Your family doesn't want to have you in hospital too.

Maybe if you havn't already talked to her on the phone you can still talk to her and don't make the mistake I did and let pride keep you from telling her how you feel about her over the phone. JUST IN CASE YOU CAN'T I PERSON.

My continued prayers are with you and your family and that your mom is at least not in pain!

Just got another call from dad. They are pulling the TPM (total protein maintenance) and all of the antibiotics except one. Hospice is coming by tomorrow.

Dad had a talk with mom about everything before this decision was made. My dad feels guilty about all of this because he feels like he should have stopped the initial surgery that started all this. Mom assured him that she was a big girl and made the decision and it wasn't his fault. She said that she figured that something like this was going on and that is why she slept all the time. She is prepared for the consequences of the decision that she has made.

I am doing ok right now. Denile is not just a river. I would like to say that I have prepared myself for this. At this point in my life I have the unfortunate pleasure of having a degree in psychology so I know the stages and what is coming. I will be fine until I get there and see her.

I will keep you guys up to date.
