you dont want to go to a 18t front sprocket unless you plan on doingtop end runs. I would go like 16/42 but its going to depend on your rigind style

The "typical" 17/43 is 2.53..(18/45 is 2.50) you then get the an easy to change setup that you can race or take a Sunday ride on..
Looks like a nice compromise to me...
