Motion Pro Chain alignment tool

Some one care to explain how the "chain alignment" tool that motion pro sells works? I use the "string" method myself but I was curious how easy and accurate that tool is..

Brendan, cancel that order you dip-poop! A simple calibration tool you pick up at your local parts store works far better and easier to use. Call me and I'll dial you in!

Forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question. Why would you need this tool or use the string method, when I thought we align our wheels with the hash marks on our swingarm? I thought these marks were to make sure our wheel was aligned??

You are correct! The hash marks are there for your reference when aligning the rear wheel. However, they aren't always perfect. It's close enough for government work. However, if you want your wheel in perfect alignment with the front, the string line method is the cats meow.

+1 i understand that the tool will aglign the chain to rear spocket spot on , how does it line the rear wheel to the front at the same time

I just take the depth gauge portion of a dial caliper and measure the distance of the axle block to the rear face of the swingarm. I make sure both sides are equal, and it takes less than 2 minutes to square up the back end.

I don't know about that tool in particular. I use race calipers, which are oversized calipers. You get a clear, and more precise measurement than relying on the hash-marks on the swing arm axle sections. The race caliper gives you the measurement from the swing arm centerline to the rear axle centerline.

Recently, I have switched to the S-BAT setup from Profi. I used their belt alignment tools on H-Ds with great success.
