Motorcycle GPS

Can anyone recommend a decent priced GPS unit for my motorcycle that comes with a speaker system for my helmet. Currently I have a blue tooth built into my helmet. I plan on doing a road trip this summer and a GPS unit would be a nice addition for the trip.

I think most of the guys use the Zumo 550. i'm sure they will chime in.

Yep, Zumo, but I want the 660. I don't need XM thanks to my iPhone. However, you will still need to get a speaker system. I don't know of any GPS that comes with speakers for the helmet.

Zumo 550 or 660...both have Bluetooth.

You may if you're looking for stereo audio, look at the 660...I think it supports A2DP; the 550 doesn't.

I have the 550 with the XM...all tied into my Autocom system. I love it. I don't mind the cable to the helmet... I don't have to worry about charging anything. LOL

Everything you want to know about the zumo. I believe that with the bluetooth on the 550 you will be able to get a signal from the GPS to your current blutooth helmet setup. Check out what the guys on the zumoforms say. I'm planing on doing the same thing with my bikes.

Good luck

Zumo's are a little pricy but they're made to handle the vibration, weather and other things a motorcyclist needs. Do some research, I think you'll agree.

Garmin also makes some of the Nuvi's with the same weather/shock rating as the Zumo. I have the 500 - works great and not as bulky as the Zumo. 8hr battery in it too - it's a very nice unit that was about half the price of the Zumo 550 last year when I got it.

or maybe I have the 550....looks the same. I'd have to grab mine and look

At any rate, I can leave my volume up and hear the nice lady yell at me when to turn, but I prefer to not listen to her and glance at it occasionally as it gives me plenty of notice as to the mileage on upcoming turns/exits.

ok, double checked, I do have the 500. You can view this link for a comparison - though I don't see any difference.

I've been caught in a downpour with mine and it didn't skip a beat. I have it hardwired to the bike using a Garmin kit, or you can use the supplied car charger and wire a charge port into your bike. Also got a ram mount in my wiring kit from Garmin and have it mounted using a RAM stem mount - works great!

research the 660, I have the 550, was going to buy a 660 until I read some reviews, it has problems

Another vote for the Iphone! I'm running the $3.00 GPS Drive app and it has tons of features and it means I only have to have one device on the bike and if all else fails I'll just call/email/text you:)

posted from my iPhone.

I had the MotionXDrive on the iPhone...the $2.99 app...until I did a full restore to try to improve the ridiculously bad reception I've been experiencing over the last few months. Even though I synched the phone to iTunes first, and was able to recover every other app I had, this one disappeared.

It seemed to work pretty well for the money, but I hate to buy it again knowing it's not going to survive a system restore.

Usually at least in my experience with apps; if you select an app you already had it will let you download it again without paying a second time.

Thanks for the tip! In fact it looks like iTunes has allowed me to download it again without charge.

For those who are interested, the app name is MotionX Drive. There's a "holiday special" at present on iTunes and the price is down to 99 cents.

It may not be the world's best GPS, but for 99 cents it does a great job. The downside is you also need access to the data network, because it doesn't have a dedicated map database.
