Mototeck undertail warning

I went out today to do some maintenance on my bike. Was checking chain tension when I happened to notice that I had lost 2 body rivets from my undertail and the undertail itself was actually on the outside of the tail fairing.....not cool at all. I recall some of the guys from the group buy say they had trouble getting the holes to lineup. Mine was the same way. I have no doubt that it will continue to do this due to the added stress of the holes not lining up, so I am removing it and have sent an email to Mototeck requesting a replacement. You guys that bought these might want to keep an eye on this if you had trouble getting yours together.

From all these undertail threads, IS there an undertail that just bolts in without any problems. I just hear: "Had to cut this, Had to cut that, bolts don't align up, didn't really fit until I (whatever needed), paint doesn't match, doesn't fit correctly and on and on ! So, who makes one you just replace the stock underpan with, or is there one made like this

? And if not, anyone know why ? Not taking mine off, I would think it would be a simple swap using the same pattern as the stock except for the rear fender extension

I wasn't a part of that group buy, but I have a Mototeck undertail that I got straight from the manufacturer...I've lost two of those pins; just not the best pins to hold hard plastic pieces, IMHO...I replaced one of them with the stronger "screw type" plastic rivet and it's still intact...

I don't think it's a Mototeck thing...I think it's just cheap plastic rivets...

TMH over on SH.Org sells a nice undertail that just requires you removing your inside tray, there's no cutting or anything and from everything I've heard it's a great fit. As an added benefit, it's main purpose and design was to give a little added clearance for lowered bikes.

Now beyond that, I myself do not know of any undertail that doesn't require cutting of the factory tailbox. As for me, my TopGun fit flawlessly with all holes lining up great with no stress or fatigue to the tail, but ya still gotta cut the inside box.

It appears to me that the holes on one side of the undertail weren't drilled properly. The other side lines up fine. It took 2 people to get the 2 pieces to line up but this seems to be causing too much pressure for the rivets to handle.

all you need to do is round out the hole a little more on the undertail...then there wount be too much stress, dont roundt it out too much otherwise the little plastic rivet will fal out.
i have a hotbodies undertail and the holes match up perfect with the stock ones...i have since modified that one to use the stock tail lightwith the LED board from clear alternatives, it looks awesome now.

I have the Hotbodies undertail also, I used ss bolts and nuts when I installed mine. Everthing lined up and I havn't had a bit of trouble out of it.

not saying your wrong but another issue could be that you might not have trimmed enough of the original plastic away... i had an issue like that and had to go back and retrim more of the original undertail away so i could get my tail and undertail to line up. In the end i had one that didnt want to line up so i used a screw, washer and nut to hold it in. I check it after ever ride almost and still have all the plastic rivits in place that i started with.

That wouldn't help, you can barely see the holes on the undertail when looking through the hole on the tail fairing. The holes looks like they were drilled in the wrong spot. Theres too much sideways pressure, front to back, from the 2 pieces working against each other.

whytlotus...if you need to make new holes bro here's a tip...goto fleet farm or auto store, get small fiberglass bondo kit. Mix up a little resin, cut a few small sheets of cloth, cover the holes with the fiberglass. Let dry, and lineup undertail, drill new holes...just a thought, not perfect but it works...and obviously you lay the glass from the inside of the tail so you don't see the mess...lol

Sorry to hear the undertail issues...I've had a few issues with my UFO...not perfect, but close as its gona get I figgure.

Also, make sure you hear the "SNAP" when you place those rivets through the hole. I made sure I heard the "SNAP". As of yet, all rivets are there.

It's trimmed flush to rails on both sides. It's a front to back line up issue with the holes on one side only. You can clearly see the holes are not in the same general spot on the mounting tabs when you compare the side that lines up to the side that doesn't. Thanks for your input though.

I have no idea why anyone would even bother using the plastic rivets!
I used s.s. button heads, and epoxied nuts inside. IMO,this gives you total piece of mind.
I bought a box of 100,so if anyone wants some just PM me.
