Moving the Busa

Alrighty, here's what I've got.

I need to get the Busa from TX to NM.  I have 2 choices:

1. Let the movers take it and trash it in the process (I've never received a bike back in the same condition)

2. Get a hitch for the car and pull it in the smallest enclosed trailer possible.

I've never pulled a trailer before.  It's ~800 miles.  What should I expect?

Gracias!

Trailer it yourself. I pulled a trailer with two bikes in it from Arizona to Missouri (1200 miles). No damage to either bike !!

You can go to U-Haul and rent hitch, trailer, whole set-up. Think they even have regular motorcycle trailers but they aren't enclosed. One way rental is usually cheaper than round trip. As for pulling it, just allow more time to do everything, start, stop, etc.. Not really a big deal if you have a mid size or larger car.

Dude coming from the military I will say this DO NOT ever let the movers move your Busa you will be sorry if you do. Trailer it for sure and trailering is easy

Im letting the military move both my bikes. Im PCSing to california from NC. I have a trailer, but I dont want the hassle of trailering on my tow vehicle, 2000 V8 Camaro with 125K miles. What ever happens to the bike will be better than a tranny rebuild in the car.

TRAILER IT.

My friend moved from Oregon to Colorado and tried to rent a U-Haul trailer for his bike - they said they don't do one way on motorcycle trailers - LOCAL ONLY! So you would have to use one of the enclosed utility trailers.... OR...

Buy a cheap trailer for the trip, and sell it when you get there. That's what he did and came out even!

You can just use one of the uhaul utility trailers... The have tie downs on the floor.

5' x 9' Ramp Utility Trailer is what i used before...

also your car/truck will block most of the wind that hits, but one of those stretch tight covers wouldn't be a bad idea in case of something that gets thrown up (debris, sand, etc.)

depending on your car the bike weight is close to a couple big guys sitting in the back. my friend has a Cobalt(?) and pulls his dressed out Shadow all the time with no problems. just don't put it in OD until you are on the road. you can also put your toe on the brake on most cars that have locking converters to disable them (brake light) until you are up to speed. that will get you a few hundred more RPMs. (this is assuming you have an applicable automatic)

local trailer rental (Bike) $14 a day
one way rental for trailer $45 a day

you can almost purchase a cheapo utility trailer and sell it on the other end and come out pretty good if you find a decent deal on the thing locally....

Any reason you can not ride it? that would be my first choice

.
Then I'd have to pull my car w/ the Busa...

~$300 for the hitch, install, etc.

$80 1 way, smallest enclosed.

I'll recoup a little $ by doing the move myself too.

Thanks for the advice, I'll be pulling it...

Most definately the best choice. I pulled mine in a trailer behind the van when i PCS'd from California to Texas. And like you said, you get paid for partial dity move and you know the bike wont get damaged with you taking care of it.
