Getting pretty much everything on my bike powdercoated from TMPowdercoating (Travis Minor, a site sponsor)

So, while my bike is on stands, dismembered I want to address another issue.

I already raised it back up (thank god, lowered an inch kills it) but I am changing out my gearing and trying to get some better gas mileage

Here's the Stats on my MPGs

2005 Haybusa Blk/Prpl

29mpgs average
Full titanium akrapovic
Powercommander III usb (custom map currently)
Velocity Stacks
BMC Race Filter

and Im 6'2" 180lbs

I did not have the custom map done, it was done by the previous owner, but I assume when he said custom he meant ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS OVERKILL.

anyway, I am also going to change the gearing again, I am at 16/42

any suggestions?:poke:

The custom map may be your problem.
Mine is rich and i get even less MPGs.
Plan on heading down this week to have them lean out cruising range in map from 4-7k rpms.
I would try this before swapping the gears.
Easier to do.
Someone should be able to go into your map and adj it for better MPGs.

Just because it is custom does not mean it is perfect .

Blanca is probably right on with the map however I would also investigate the velocity stacks, if they were intended to shift the torque band higher into the rpm band they could be hurting the low end(cruising rpms)

Prior to putting on my turbo when the bike had an airbox mod and a full Yoshimura TRS exhaust I used to get 34 mpg drag racing it running 9.8's in the 1/4. It had 16/41 gearing.

Now with a Velocity Turbo and 17/40 gearing I get 17 mpg drag racing it.

I get in the mid 40's with givi top case and givi side cases...and I'm not afraid of the throttle either. Will see where I am with the mpg with the new Brock pipe and power commander...2hip

hmmmm

Well my bike is already stipped down to nothing but frame/engine/forks/swingarm...

so switching gearing isn't a concern, However it seems I should be doing a bit better just with a map...

anyone have suggestions for where to get one thats solid? I know powercommander has them on there site, last I recall they are just based on which full or half system you have and maybe if you have an air filter

my '08 is stock and I'm usually getting under 40. I thought something was wrong with the bike until I made a conscious effort to stay out of the throttle. My investigation led me to believe the problem was in my right wrist. I would imagine the 55 profile tires I run throw the readings of the odometer a little too.

Get the map done first. 18/40 sprockets will help get a couple of extra MPG if you do distances.

mm thanks, I think I am going to swap the sprockets and map

anyone know how many links for a 18/40 set up?:eh:

Hummm this is a good question because I was wondering the same thing. I put my Brocks AH with a PCV and my MPG went down, but then again I love the sound of the AH:whistle:

go back to the stock gearing...i get close 50mpg did when bone stock and still now that i have full exhaust pc3 and airbox mod

This is the funniest range...

I wonder what you guys mean that you get 50mpgs

Because going downhill at 70mph on the highway in my 2005 C6 Corvette the instant fuel economy can be anywhere from 48-70MPG!!!!

DAYUM! 70MPG FROM A 400hp v8?!!?!?:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Oh im just being funny, but it seems like I could do a bit better than 28mpg eh?

Mine full muzzy, power commander, tre and K&N filter get around 40 - 50 average with stock gearing and speedo is adjusted with the speedo-healer set by GPS so its pretty close on the fuel milage. If I am riding hard curves usually drops to the 30's.

You may want to try syncing the throttle bodies. Good luck man

Oh, I am 5'9" and 185 so our bikes should be close

With my PCIII map, HMF full system, 18/40 gears, I get around 45 mpgs average cruising. There are more gains to be made in the map for highway mileage without killing the performance.

I have a full Micron system with a K&N filter, power commander 3 with a custom tune, and I get in the high 30's to the low 40's. I would get the map done and go from there. Good luck with getting the mileage up to where you want it at.
