Mr. Daytona

I don't know how many of you follow Racing but in the 1990's Scott Russell was a god on a Superbike. Then one spring day I watched in Horror as he was horrifically maimed on the starting grid for the 2001 Daytona 200. I watched it and knew instantly that his racing career was over. The pictures from his hospital room with the huge gaping wound on his leg sickened me. Now I hear that he is making a return to racing at Daytona of all places in the MotoST race. No doubt this race will not be televised but if it were I would not miss it! I was fortunate enough to see him race at Seattle in a Formula USA race back in his old Muzzy Kawasaki days. It was an absolute deluge (Seattle duh) that day and water was sheeting off the track. Russell was pulling power wheelies past the crowds on the front straight on the first lap and won with ease!

Welcome back man!

Ya! It's the worst accident i've seen in person.

That was a long race day. They had 3 restarts.

Right on! The return of a legend! although in the MotoST series. Still very cool though.

Badass.

He is responisble for the 3 different ZX7's I owned (one was a solid green RR I REALLY regret selling).

let's not forget the 600 race @ Daytone where he crashed on one of the first few laps...got back on the track and won the race...
he knew the track very well.
Gave the like of Fogarty, Picotte, Polen and DuHamel (in his prime years) a real run.

fortunately, it wasn't the brand he rode for...nearly the same results came now matter who he rode for...he rode for kowi, yimaha, hardly, the ducks suzuki and even the zook GP team (he struggled with the two stokes) if I recall correctly.
Harley had it's best ever superbike finishes in those years.....lol

ever notice how he looked like that actor from the movie Girl next door?
