Muzzy Is Sold Out

I have had my Muzzy exhaust on order for 3 weeks now. I called Muzzy and they said that they are sold out of ALL Hayabusa exhausts and will be making more by the end of April.

While I was talking to them I asked what the HP increases were and they said around 9%.
This seems a little high doesnt it?
Thats 14.4HP if you have 160rwhp.

15 rwhp is bang on what 2 independent local dyno guys got 2 weeks ago with a Hindle on the 12. Well one was Lang Hindle, who is not quite independent. But he's local. :D

14 rwhp from a pipe on the 12. That's reality. A 154 hp Busa with a pipe and nothing else gets around 5-6 extra horsepower.

In my opinion Kawasaki may have limited power intentionally by clogging the pipe. This would limit their legal liability and allow owners to realize the full potential of the stock engine with a pretty basic mod.

DP - I don't think Kawasaki has limited anything other than maybe some motor problems that might have occured between 1000 - 2000 miles on the clock! :)

Here's the scoop:

IT'S THE CATS! [Or lack of when the stock header/pipes are replaced.] If you have ever gutted a cat before you know how capable they are of clogging. That's the restriction - not something extra added intentionally by Kaw to limit output. Lay off the brownies! :)

If you (or anyone) has the time to search archives from Busa sources you will see the same type of gains originally seen from new pipes on the EUROPEAN Busas that have factory cats. But those same gains were not realized when applied to US non cat version Busas.

Todd I was long ago the first one to propose on these boards that the honeycomb cat was the clog. I saw it on the sectioned 12 that was at the shows I attended.

The cat could be an intentional clog.

I'm more interested in the actual weight distribution, than wheel base. Example: R-1 was thought to be more wheelie prone than ZX-9, due to shorter wheelbase. R-1 had longer OEM swingarm, and more weight forward. Tank shorter, more rider weight forward, and on the handlebars. The R-1 actually turned out to be easier to launch than ZX-9.

Dolan, R1 easier to launch than an R1? what planet at you from? I've an R1 and my twin bro has a ZX9-C2, the Kwaka is an easy mid to low 10s machine the R1 a mixture of wheelspin and wheelies in a big dose, even the Busa with standard snatchomatic clutch is easier to launch.

The R1 has a brilliant clutch but HP Vs wheelbase gets the better of it every time.

To Dangermouse: I currently own, 98 ZX-9, 99 R-1, and 99 Busa, amongst others. I have personally run all of them at local dragstrip, on THIS planet. I weigh 220, so my times are ok, but a lighter rider could go faster. Still, I have a valid same rider, same track comparison. ...... ....BTW, you may want to edit your opening question: "R-1 being easier to launch, than an R-1" Should be: R-1 easier to launch than ZX-9. :D

DP - Cats for the 12 has been public for at least a year and never caused Kaw to change their line concerning the Busa. I don't know enough about emission requirements for bikes to say whether the 12 has to have them to pass. I do know that a relatively hot cam increases emissions. There are other areas that once tweaked also cause same. Regardless - technically once the cats are removed the 12 isn't even street legal. Not that we wouldn't be doing the same.
