For some reason i cant get my bike to go over 90mph all of a sudden. Last week it was fine, now when it gets up there, it just doesnt wanna rev and higher. Gears 1-3 it will redline, but when i hit 4th, it wont go over about 5000rpm. Any ideas?

Don't know that it could cause it but if you have a TRE on, remove it and then take a test ride to see if any difference.

Is this the GS1100 we are talking about? Does it seem to have the same power in 1st & 2nd as it did before? Let me know if you are talking about the GS & post any other symptoms that you can think of.

yes it is the good ol GS. It seems to hesitate a little when it gets to the higher rpm's in 1,2,3, but it will still get up there. There is no hope for 4 and 5 though. It almost feels like a fuel problem but i dont know what to check or where to start.

I was also thinking a dirty fuel filter or a kinked fuel line. It might be able to rev in the first 3 gears with the power that is available & then start to drag down under the load of the higher gears. That's why I was wondering if seem to have the same power as usual in the lower gears. I would still start with the fuel filter & check the lines for kinks. If I think of something else I will let you know. Check the fuel system first & post back!

For once, someone says "what's a TRE" and really doesn't know what one is

Brian, this is a Busa board, if you don't tell people you don't have a busa, they will automatically assume you do.

I remembered from some previous posts that he had a GS1100. Didn't bother to pick on the TRE comment.

I was just over there tonight, he says it won't rev over about 4000 rpms, we had the throttle off the other day while we were checking out different ideas for new bars, he thinks that may have something to do with it. I don't see how, the throttle turns until the cable stops it from turning. It's probably a fuel thing like you said. That crazy bike, you fix one problem and then the next day there is another.

Start at the throttle and check the way the cable is run. Check the linkage on the carbs and make sure its not kinked/hitting anything. If I remember right, that has the 2 cable push/pull system. Make sure both cables are free. Seeing that you had the throttle off recently, I would believe the problem is small and in the throttle/linkage

Sounds like a fuel problem.....check the filter, fuel lines, and the gas cap. Gas cap? it could have a clogged vent and won't flow enough fuel.

Hey Brian, now that he mentions it, it could be that crappy petcock on that bike. (the little gas valve thingy)
ok well i will charge the battery tomorrow, i only have 11.7v while the bike is running. When the bike is off, i have 12v on the battery. I think it may be something electrical since it is doing that now. Now it wont rev over 5,000rpm and any gear. Any ideas?

Are you makin fun of me cause i dont know what a TRE is??? Ok so i really dont so someone let me in on the secret!

If it isn't charging the battery it will eventually drain the battery down to the point where it will die. The high end will go first & it will get slower & slower. Charge the battery & hopefully it will run fine. Then you have to figure out why it isn't charging. Keep me updated!!

I think its your throttle cables. If it were a fuel problem, you would notice it sputtering at a certain RPM, then it would rev past it. I had that problem on acouple of my bikes. Fuel filter was clogged up a bit

It it absolutely WILL NOT go over 5000 RPMs, check you throttle cables like someone else said. Was the bike running just fine before? If it was, it has to be something simple.

If however the bike performance kind of went down over time, it could be a lack of fuel, but I doubt it by the way you described it.
