My First Ever Speeding Ticket!

Well, Yesterday, I got my first ever speeding ticket on my 'busa  (80 in a 55....$390 bucks!!).  Up until then, I had a perfect driving record of over 20 years!.  What made it more interesting was that there were 2 cars in the other lane going about as fast as I was...but, for some reason, the motorcycle cop just pulls ME over to lay a ticket on.  No doubt, because I was the only one sitting on a 'busa!  Has anyone else been singled out like that?   Oh, and BTW, Hello everyone....I'm new here....just got back into bikes after a 15 year layoff......I have an '06 black 'busa.....the fastest color, of course!  ;)

Damn, that's a stiff ticket man. I think I'd get myself a "Traffic Attorney" for that one. If it's a radar ticket, a "Good Traffic Attorney" can get you out of it.

80 in a 55 in Nevada? Last year an Oregon county cop let me off after ringing his radar at 87 in a 55 but I was about 13 miles north of the NV border above Winnemucca and he and I were the only vehicles on the road. BTW, ALL roads in Oregon are 55 unless its an Interstate. He had me for sure but it was beginning to rain hard and I was trying for cover at the border (and) I was in the middle of nowhere.

Where were you? You know, singled out or not, he can only pull over one at a time. Was it inside city limits or in the desert? Man, I've never had a problem in NV. At least go to court and try to get the fine reduced or try for traffic school or community service but 25 (over) the posted limit isn't going to be very helpful.

It was on the 215 here in North Las Vegas. I think I will go to court and see what I can do. Maybe I can get it knocked down so there's no points....can't have my insurance going through the roof! Yeah, I thought it was kinda a stiff ticket myself....the guy was relentless....gotta give him props though....he came out of nowhere...I'm usally pretty good at spotting those guys....didn't see him till I checked my mirrors to change lanes.....was staring at red and blue flashing lights...

atleast you didn't get 115 in a 55 like dr1300r and majikman got this last summer.

Welcome to the board, get a lawyer....:)
+1
I'd definately get an attorney. If you were in between cars and he tagged you with RADAR then if, and ONLY if, it was a laser or maybe aerial can it be undisputable. Even then a good attorney will find ways.
X & K band radar beams are not accurate enough to pick a bike out of a pack unless it is in front of other vehicle by a good margin. It will pick up the largest (and usually closest)vehicle which the beam bounces off of.
Least case request a supporting deposition if you can and see what he used to determine speed.
Good luck.

I did the same thing, got away from bikes for almost 15 years, then last year went out and bought 3 of them! Looking back I regret not riding all those years.

+1 Get a lawyer and fight that ticket! Sounds like the general traffic flow was flowing above the limit and from a safety standpoint you were keeping up when you got singled out (Busa's do stand out!).
Definitely a safety issue that the lawyer can aurgue.

Good luck with the ticket, and let us know how you make out. Welcome to the .org!

Dayum I got stop too and was with a pack of cars when it happened. 85 in a 60, the CHP said that was me one freebie and to slow down. I said Merry Christmas and was on my way.

I'm a bit confused why a Motorcycle cop is able to actually stop a BUSA? I'm not advocating running from our wonderful tax collector...err.....police force.....but in general I think motorcycle cops single out other motorcyclists because they view themselves as some sort of biker behavior improvement specialist.

I've only had one ticket in my life riding a motorcycle and that was given to me by a motorcycle cop. I got a ticket for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. I did everything BUT put my foot down but for all intense purposes was stopped. I wish now I had gotton a lawyer but I just paid the damn thing. Just the principle of the thing. The cop was right in front of me at the stop trying to radar speeders. I even waved at the f'ing guy in typical biker fashion before he pulled me over. Maybe the thought I gave him the finger or something lol....well I can tell you that is sure as sheet what I give cops now.

I have zero respect for police anymore, not just because of that dumb ticket, but because this whole watching out for my safety is the biggest crock ever invented. There are two kinds of people in the world, those that need to call a cop when they need help and those that don't. Only reason I'd ever see a cop is if someone calls one out to come get me, or is giving me a ticket. What possible sympathy should I have a a profession that can ONLY be negative for me? So to pipe in my opinion...sell the babies dirty diapers and pay to get a lawyer...no matter the outcome you'll not be left wishing later you fought it, like I did.

Welcome to the board after your long stint away my friend. Very beautiful color bike that you have and you should be able to get off with an attorney.

I stop becuase I man up to it. They have a job to do, we all have jobs to do. What if every one stopped doing what they were told at ALL work places? Where would we be then? If you dont like the laws get them changed. I have seen places where poeple do what ever they want when they want and I can tell you it's not a place that you or I would want to live. You dont like getting tickets then stop braking the law and stop blaiming LEO's for it. I have never been stopped by a motor unit it has always been a cruiser and hasw always been CHP.

I have never known a cop that did not in fact break the very laws that they are paid to enforce. I've known many cops as friends and they all speed and extend professional courtesy to each other all the time by flashing their badge to each other. I really detest hypocrytes! Our system of justice is corrupt and it all comes down to money. If you have money, you're a free man, (OJ, Blake and others) and if you're poor you do the time or pay the fine.

And don't tell me to change the system. The system isn't going to change no matter what you do.

For every guy who gets a BS ticket, like failure to come to a complete stop, (translates as - I just want to piss you off), there are cops who will give you break.

I was headed up to Madison, Wisc. for a soccer tourney. Late at night, kids watching a movie in the mini-van, cruising. Hit Dickeyville (which is notorious for speed traps, I was to learn later), and got pulled over for 84 in a 55. Pulled over, turned on the interior lights, kept my hands in plain view. I was not abusive with the officer and he let me off with a warning. My ticket would have been $230.

I have had experience with cops on a power trip, but I do not paint all cops with the same brush.

My 2 cents

Fight the ticket, get an extension, delay-delay... look up the vehicle code the LEO believes you violated and take it from there, there are sure quite a few LEO on the board who are willing to give you some better suggestions as to how to dispute it... I received a speeding ticket back in June for allegedly doing 80 on a 65, CHP gave me the ticket, I kept my trap shut, wen't to court got an extension, wen't to the preliminary that's another extension, then finally the trial, by then it had been 5 months since I received the ticket, LEO no show for trial case dismissed... I also believe that it's worthless sitting there trying to argue with the LEO when he writes you up, that's what the court is for, you can seriouslly grill them there provided that your prepared that is... Good luck & please do keep us posted....

How much does it cost to get an attorney? I wonder if it costs more than the ticket? I think everyone who gets a ticket, for speeding with other cars around doing the same exact thing, feel they got singled out. I hope you can get out of the ticket or at least get a reduction. Do whatever you have to do to keep your insurance rates from increasing.

Actually, he claims he was tracking right behind me.....No RADAR involved I guess. (I don't believe him but...hey, then again I didn't see him). I was thinking that myself about a lawyer costing more than the ticket. However, I think it would be worth the price of the ticket to pay a lawyer to get me out of it. I'll call around...we'll see how it goes. Anyone know of a good lawyer here in Vegas?? Thanks for all of your responses...I really appreciate it! Think I'll go for a ride to get my mind off of it! ;)

ive been to jail (a friend had it happen too) for running from leo, he was so far back i didnt even know he was there till he was running me into the ditch!
my buddy had the cops pour a bottle of coke in his tank. but it was a KAW
