My new 99 Busa.... the build....

Well I traded one of my Vmax's for a Busa.

I still have my 99 Vmax and now have a 99 Busa to match. Fun to have two king of the street bikes ( even if the older Vmax isn't a true king of the street anymore ).

This winter the Vmax will be getting a few small mods. Mostly to improve my launch at the track and maybe, just maybe a small nitrous setup. Looking at Mid to low 10's. I just dont want to make it unstreetable. Originally it was going to be a 1577 cc long rod motor with chain drive. But for the price, I could throw a bottle on the Max, run low 10's and buy a Busa and throw some mods on that and run low 9's. So I went the second route.

My busa is all stock and was a stolen recovery bike. No plastics. The guy I got it from put a rear cowl and seat on it and a front fender. Here is a picture of it that he sent me that made me buy the bike.

Here it is 12 hours after I brought it home.

The exhaust was hacked up and open pipes on it. Not sure what I am going to do with that just yet. Exhaust systems are so expensive and don't really offer HUGE power gains vs bang for the buck. I know most exhaust systems are mainly for sound or looks. Most likely for now it will stay with stock head pipes and I might look for either stock cans, or some used slip ons.

KN Filter installed, and thats it. No power commander or any other mods done to it. This is my first fuel injected bike. And I am curious to power commanders or having the ecu flashed etc. So this winter I ll be researching ways to make power and get the bike into the low 9's.

I have a Shinko 003 coming in a 200 wide. This is strictly going to be a track bike with light street driving. I don't have twisties around me really and I am not into 200 mph hangers, been there and done that on my other sport bikes when I was younger. If I do get into it, I ll buy a track bike and go road racing and a Busa isn't it for that type of work LOL.

I ll post pictures as I slowly go with it and keep a log of mods done.

Later today I buy a black nose and fender that are in excellent shape. $100. All the body panels you see on the bike now cost me $130, including all the fairings, inner pannels, wind screen, rear seat, custom undertail, turn signal ( still need another one ) and a few misc pieces. So I ll have all the replacement panels for $230. I think that is a pretty good price even though the sides need a little love. The body is going to be wrapped in a design that matches my truck or it will be painted all black.

Here is my truck.....prior to my 35's tires.

If I go black, the whole bike will be black.... everything...

Here is my Vmax also. I have to have the sissy seat or my wife wont ride on it....

My last day at the track before I put the bike away, came away with the trophy class win, but missed the call for top eliminator :banghead:

Hopefully the Busa will be as much fun as the Vmax is.

You are going down a similar road that I am on right now. I had an 04 Busa get totaled when a kid ran a stop sign that I replaced with my current 09 Busa. I did not want to make it what the 04 was, because my wife still likes to get on and ride, so I bought a wrecked 2000 model to build as a <budget-minded> track bike.

Here is a thread I started to document my build: https://www.hayabusa.org/forum/1-4-mile/164999-introducing-frankenbusa.html

I am in the process of removing the Hindle street pipe that is on it now and it will be for sale in a few days. I also have a set of D&D slip ons that I need to take pics of and put up FS as well. PM me if you are interested.

Got a few new parts ( used ) in today. Front right caliper , brake lines. Tomorrow should be a rotor. Now I just need to get the rotor bolts..... :banghead:

More pictures soon!
