So a couple buddies of mine have 50's and I've been wanting one for a while for my nephew (really just for me, but I needed an excuse

I'd been hounding craigslist for a while since I'm cheap and don't want to spend too much on a toy. I found this one for $250 but talked him down to $175 for it. He said it had no compression. Took it home and tore it apart. Realized the cam chain bolts were not tight and backed out ruining the cam cover and allowing the cam sprocket to come off and letting the valves float. I thought awesome, I'll only have to replace these bolts and that cover, and I'm golden. Well, we got it all together and it runs, but has a knock in it. I'm thinking some of the aluminum from that case cover that got messed up ruined one of the crank bearings or something. Grrr.. But either way, I bought new plastics/graphics a new tire, gasket kits, etc and after all is said and done I'll have about $300 into it.
Here are some pics. The orange is the before, and in the last pic the plastics are just sitting on it since we have to take it all back apart anyway to split the cases and check out the knock..
For what its worth, its a 2003 XR50 with a BBR 88cc big bore kit, BBR bars, rear spring, fork springs, etc...
