Myrtle Beach-anyone going.

Just curious if anyone is going. Kim and I went down last year to the "white" bike week and had a decent time. However, all of the vendors had their cruiser stuff and nothing for sport bikes.

So, this year we are going to try the "black" bike week thing early in the week, Monday through Wednesday. Hopefully we will see some more relevant events. The bike week sites stated that the Blackbikeweek starts on the 25th but hopefully the vendors will be there early in the week also.

Does anyone know for sure?

The extended forcast looks good so even if there isn't much going on it will still be good beach weather.

I am worred about the bike theft issue. As I recal last year a board members ride was stolen on his first night (Bigbsbusa maybe?). After reading the "how to steal a bike" thread I have some ideas. Where we are staying is on the strip which means higher visibility for theives. We are taking the three bikes again (busa, kat, DRZ) so chaining them all together, disc locks, covering with a tarp, and video taping should put my mind at ease.

I would hate to have to cap some poor theiving bastid, so I am really protecting them from themselves, right.

Any other suggestions? I really need the Scorpio alarm but really don't want to cough up the cash. I guess it is cheaper than losing a bike though. Maybe I'll give Kevin a call tomorrow, I think he said he could get a deal on them. We'll see.

Have good one, Chris

I have been going to Atlantic Beach Bike Week for 15 years and never had a bike stolen, it is no worse at that than anywhere else there are a lot of people. Just like anywhere else you would go, take precautions!

Vendors will not be setting up most places until Wednesday evening or Thursday, although there are a couple of dealerships in town that have sales earlier in the week.

I'm coming but want get there until Thurs evening...Man the Scorpio is worth every penny...

Thanks bigdog for the vendor info. I was afraid of that. Oh well, hopefully there will be something for us to get into. At least it will be decent weather.

I guess I will go ahead and order the scorpio, I love gadgets anyway. Hopefully, I shouldn't have any problems hooking it up.

Thanks, CHris

I called Geico and added Comprehensive insurance for $75/6 months. Got all 3 bikes covered for under $150, so that's not too bad I guess. Ordering the alarm also so my peace of mind is improved greatly. Hopefully one less worry.

Have a great one, Chris

I will be down from the 26th until the 30th, the North Myrtle Beach Drag Strip is the place to be this year.

Where is the North Myrtle Drag Strip?

? (Besides N.Myrtle...LOL)

Don't quote me exactly but I think it is near the old Military base. I haven't been to Myrtle Beach in over 7 years.

Well, just got back from MB and we had a great time. No problems what so ever. I guess all the worry about the bad black bike week didn't pan out, or maybe we left before the "fun" got started. Anyway saw a lot of great looking busa's. I really want the custom paint thing but I'm going to wait to see what's in store for 2006. If it's a 1397cc I'm there. Then the mods and custom paint work. Till then I'll be thinking.

However, I/we almost got arrested (not really) by the beach cop for kayaking. I wanted to try surf kayaking so we rented one from a local sport shop. They said that I could launce and go straight out and had to keep it about 100 yards from the shore line, no problem. Got the Kayak to the hotel, suited up and headed out. I had a blast and was comming back in to let my friend have a chance. Before we switched up some lifegard puke had to share his two cents. Needless to say I was a little hot. There was nobody else in the water and they had jet skis, kayaks and parasailing less than 200 yards south of our location (but they were a business so it's ok) That led to his supervisor comming out an explaining things to me. "You can't launch a surfboard or skimboard from 10am-5pm, blah blah blah" My reply, "It's a KAYAK" not a surfboard. We went back an forth for a few retorts. Then he calls for "reinforcements". Enter the beach cop. Who wanted to give me a $300 ticket for 15 minutes of kayaking (and following the rental place's instructions). I asked him, "OK, if I pay your fine does that mean I can kayak then?" Needless to say he didn't apprecieate that. LOL.

Welcome to Myrtle Beach I guess. Chris
