Need a Non Buffeting Helmet

Sporting a Bell Ace of Spades, looks and ventilation are good. Buffeting in the 70's & 80's is bad, gotta get under the Zero Gravity D.B.. I've read that the Z.G. can throw wind at ya but had to go that route cause I'm 6'2" and also mounted the GiPro on top the gauges.
Any good choices to keep me from being a bobble head or looking like I'm trying to set a speed record?

I am 6'1" and do fine with a bell apex and standard windshield maybe the db is causing some turbulence.

Probably NOT what you want to hear,.......but the truth. $3 set of earplugs will take the buffering and wind noise out of any helmet. I rode for decades without plugs,........made all types of excuses to why I didn't want to wear them. (Biggest excuse was I would not be able to hear things around me) WELL,.........a buddy told me to try it for a dozen rides straight. At the end of my 12 rides,............I made the decision to never ride without them. The initial quietness is a shock to your sensory systems,........expect it. But,.......after the 6th ride or so,.......I began to appreciate the low hum of the engine and NO WIND NOISE. One big advantage was the ability to raise my level of riding due to the lack of wind noise. Most do not realize how much of a distraction that noise can be. IF you don't believe it,.........try reading a book with music cranked up to 100 decibals. Just my two cents! :beerchug:

Ditto on the Shoei and now is a great time to pick one up with all the close out sales on the X-11's and RF-1000's, Competition Accessories is a great place to start looking. Sure wished I'd have seen this coming last year when I went out and bought three new Shoei's, two months later guess what? Clearance sale!

Buffeting is more than likely not the helmet but your windscreen or seat or the combo of the two..
I had a Magical Racing screen that was real good until I put my Corbin seat on.. Helmet lift was terrible at any thing above 70mph changed out the windscreen to a MRA Vario touring and solved the issue..

Now I can adjust the Vario lip to suit my needs.. For what its worth I had a Bell helmet and it was one of the best full face helmets I ever owned..

ps; I don't use ear plugs..

++1 on the Shoei, had an HJC that would buffet real bad switched to Shoei and no more buffeting.

On my bell, i've noticed they like a little more chin to chest that the average helmet...

once you get your chin down a little, mine seemed to smooth out significantly...

just what i noticed..

another fan (and believer) in ear plugs here :) FWIW, I alternate between an ARAI Quantum F and ICON Domain Decay helmet and currently have a ZG DB screen.
I am 5'10", stock seat, stock bike height and have zero issues with buffeting.

This went from a helmet buffeting thread to a wind noise thread.. can you say THREAD JACK.. :poke:
How can earplugs stop helmet buffet? ???

they don't stop buffeting, they just keep you from hearing it. btw, my rkt101 is nice. comfy, good fit, gets a bit noisy when the vents are open. gonna see if i can fit some headphones in there.

Thanks for the replies. Work has made me a slave, so looking forward to the weekend riding even more!:cheerleader:

As mentioned wind noise is not the issue. It's the turbulence. The 'chin to chest' does help in my case, just not very comfortable on a long ride.

The windscreen would be the cheaper alternative, but don't want to take away from the sleekness of the bike. Still think the stock looks better but feel the DB isn't robbing the looks to bad. Kind of a form vs function debate.

Definitely going to look into your helmet suggestions when I can.

Keep us informed of your RKT101 ogre. CF is where I'm going with the bike, so the helmet would be nice. Ventilation is a must down here though, South Florida cooks!

DB windshields are not worth the exta $ IMHO. Not sure they were ever tested in a wind tunnel the way the OEM stuff was. I had one from the previous owner and swapped it out for the stocker. Much better. Ride in the wind enough and you never even notice it after a while, especially once your neck muscles get more toned. BTW, a nice tight tuck solves all the buffeting problems regardless of windshield type but of course is not practical on long rides.
