RAN 10.64 AT 135.6 MPH AT PHOENIX FIREBIRD
BIKE STONE STOCK,FULL TANK OF GAS AND NORMAL TIRE PRESSURE. I WEIGH 205 LBS WITH LEATHERS I WENT DOWN ONE TOOTH ON FRONT SPROCKET. ADVISE FROM THE "HOW TO RUN 9'S RIFF" GETTING AIR BOX MOD DONE SOON. HOW SHOULD I HAVE MY SUSPENSION SET? WHAT RPM SHOULD I LAUNCH AND WHAT RPM TO SHIFT? THE REST OF THE STORY IS ON THE LAST FEW ENTRIES OF HOW TO RUN 9'S. I'M LOOKING TO KEEP THE BIKE STOCK APPEARING AND AM NOT LOOKING TO TIE THE FRONT END DOWN OR EXTENDED SWINGARMS. I WOULD LIKE TO RUN A 9 ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED

Launch at 4000 rpm and slide the clutch
Run 1/2 to 1/4 tank of gas
Rear tire pressure should be around 15 psi
Front tire pressure should be around 40 psi
60 foot time is very important
Shift about 10,200 rpm
I like to run my rear suspension soft so the bike can squat when I launch and not wheelie easily.

I am going to the strip this weekend also. What settings in rear have you used with success?
I am also worried about traction into 2nd Its cool on the street but won't help at the strip.
Interesting you suggest shifting at 10.200 rpm. On the Dyno with forced air into the nose the HP peaked at 10,243rpm---175 HP-.

THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED. HOW DID YOUR MOTORCYCLES OBTAIN SUCH A HIGH MPH IN QTR RELATIVE TO MY OWN? AS I STATED EARLIER THE TRACK ELEVATION ABOUT 1100FT AND THE TEMP WAS AT LEAST 85. I'LL TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION I DIDN'T SHIFT AT THE OPTIMAL POINTS BUT I'M STILL AT LEAST 5MPH DOWN.

I went 10,12@140,5 on mine busa and the biggest problem with the busa is the clutch. It has a build in torque sensing lock up thing that makes smooth launches difficult. To avoid spinning the rear tire or wheeling off the line U have to start on a very low rpm. ( 3-4000 ) But...I found a way to trick the lock-up...I just varied the rpm before launc just like somone having a turbo does. Then smooth launches was much easier to achive. I realy dont know why this worked but it did. ( But I only got to do 6 runs before the track closed so I am sure I would have gotten a high 9 if I could work some more on the start. ) The ultimate fix for the cluch is ofcourse to weld the damn thing up. :)

I ran a 9.33 quarter on the busa, a 1.55 60 foot time........then, yawn, i woke up......but it seemed so real.........damn it........

My two cents worth on dragracing the Busa. I bring the rpm up to about 5500 to 6000 and I nail it when the light goes green. the bike will carry the front wheel all the way through first and into second. I shift at 10500 to 11000. My best et to date is 9.89 at 142mph. Mt best 60 ft. time is 1.59. I can average a 1.62 to a 1.64 all the time.
I weigh in at about 200lbs with leathers and helmet. The bike has been lowered and has one tooth off the front sprocket. Once I finally got into the nine second range I have been able to stay in the nines on almost every pass I make. I have the rear suspension compression dampening set on almost full SOFT, while I have the rebound set at almost full HARD. This allows the bike to squat and stay squatted while launching the bike. This allows weight transfer to the rear for better traction.
