OK, for you guys that have already changed your own tires I need help. How do you remove the front wheel? I cannot figure out how to remove the front axel. The manual does not show much. What do I do? I can usally fix most anything but this is kicking my butt. I have a new set of Pilot Powers sitting in the garage and thought I would take off the front and rear tires/wheels and take them to a local bike shop and have the new tires mounted to save some money but I must be missing something.

Thanks in advance,

David

on one side of the axle you'll see a hex opening. You need to unscrew the axle.

do a search on the board for the home made front axle tool and save yourself some coin. It consists of a bolt and three nuts...just can't remember the size off hand. You'll find it.

Good luck.

The hex head from a 16mm dia bolt is 24 mm. Hex head of a 5/8" bolt closely fits as well. Heheh take a monkey wrench on the bolt. A ratchet mounted 6mm allen wrench is very useful loosening those fork pinch bolts. 6mm is used throughout the bike, the ellen wrench mounted ratchet is very useful.
Loosen all the axle bolts slightly before lifting the front wheel up. Safety concerns. In reverse don't tighten completely the bolts with the front wheel off the ground.

Because the axle is free floating in the forks. Notice how the forks are on the axle. May have to force outward the forks to match the axle width. Believe the forks and axle ends are flush.

The tool in use. As you can see the forks were loosing oil, thats why I was taking the front wheel off.
