Bought a 2002 Honda CR 250R 2 stroke Dirt Bike. Bought it so I can have fun riding WITH my 6yo instead of having fun just watching him ride. Got it last Friday and life didn't permit us to ride around until tonite. WOW All I can say is it's the best thing we've done together yet. Even though we were just riding around from our front to back yard and never even got out of first gear he was smiles for an hour solid with giggling and laughter the whole time. We're going to an fenced in wide open field this weekend with dirt mounds to "jump" and soft sand to play in so we're gonna be tired puppies at night.
ANYWAY, Since I got this monster used, I figure it will be a really good idea to start taking care of it as i'm sure the last guy didn't. That being said, Does anybody know the oil capacity for a 2002 Honda cr 250r? I got the oil drained but can't rely on amount removed as it does have some moisture in it which will add to the fluid level. I bought a service manual from ebay but won't have it until next week.
Any help is appreciated

whats up? I think ther is a 8mm. bolt you take out of the case on the cluch cover side or the motor. oil will pour out when full. I owned A 02 cr but cannot rember 100%.

I believe you are correct. I went back out to the garage looking for a sight window or something and spotted an 8mm headed Phillips slotted bolt located right around mid clutch drum level on the case. I kinda assumed that would be there for a reason. It had a brass gasket as a washer and that kinda assured me my assumption was correct. It only took 16oz. for the oil to come dribbling out so I guess that's enough.
Thanks for for your reply. I'll sleep a little better thinking I've done it correctly. I'll ask at the dealership in the am when I go to pick up some parts and my chest protector that was on order.
Should anyone else be able to confirm or deny I would appreciate a chime in.

Nothing better than riding with your son. My son and I are getting ready to go to our second busa bash together. Two busas, truck and trailer$60,000. Spending time with your son, priceless!

I agree 100%! He wasn't the only one giggling and smiling. I can tell you right now, when he gets a few years under his belt and can handle a 125, He's gonna spank his old man on the track. He was almost lapping me on his 50 and I'm on a 250r. Of course our "track" tonight wasn't condusive to any thing larger than a 50 but it helped make his night that much better knowing he almost lapped Daddy!

Hope that helped you out. Listen for pinning (spark knock) on that. The 02 went to a case reed style motor and jetting is temp. sensitive. I ran either 50% race fuel or straight race fuel. 1 reason I sold it for my ktm it was too much $$ to ride 2-3 times a week and buy 5 gal. of race fuel per week.
