This one is a new one for me. Let a bud use my Busa tonight to go to/from work. On his way home he says he heard some metallic grinding noise as he was coming to a stop. Well when he stopped and then pulled off again the bike made a nasty grinding noise so he pulled over. He says that what he saw was a whole in my clutch cover.. He retreived the broken peices from the road, pulled all the loose peices he found in the cover. was 2 min from home so he put some tape on it to keep the oil in the bike to get home and started it up and rode it 2 miles to his house and it ran fine and shifted and everything. I have not had a chance to look at the bike or assess what the hell he is talking about, but the cover he is describing to me is indeed the clutch cover, but what he describes baffles me. I will hopefully have more info tomorrow for you guys, but if any of you knw anything about this please chime in..

I've never seen or heard of a clutch cover getting a hole in it without hitting something. Got pics?

hopefully by tonight.. This baffles me also, never heard of this happening.. Could there have been an unseen crack from a "no" speed drop?? I dropped it a year ago and had the replace the starter clutch cover after two mnths it also appearently cracked from the fall.

It sounds like a few clutch bolts backed out and hit the cover, seen it happen a few times. If it is new don't touch it take it to the dealer and photograph it and let the warranty fix it.

GC the bike is a 2002 with over 20K miles and the original clutch... If the bolts backed out, is this an easy fix once I replace the cover?? I am gonna do the plates also..

It is exactly what GC said it was. those damn bolts.. 20K, needed a new clutch by now.. Oh well.

Check the nut on the countersprocket for the speed sensor. It may have backed off a little. If so, it will hit the case and break it. I know. After I changed my front sprocket a few months back, I did not loctite the speed sensor nut and it backed off. I rode to work with no problems and back home. Latet I was backing out of the garage and heard a loud cracking noise. I started looking around the area where the noise came from and saw a crack in the clutchcover. When I removed the cover I noticed the nut was lose and had hit the case. but it only moved when I rolled the bike back. I think the nut was already up against the case and when rolling back it cought on the case and cracked it.

By the way. I got a new case from Bike Bandit. About 75.00 and easy to replace.

I am notfinding the case at Bike Bandit for that cheap, it is 153 for the complet cover. It is actually cheaper at Ron Ayers for everything.
